I don't understand

Why they don't just install these on the corners of city blocks, right on the curb? Nobody ever parks there, there's no need to mess up people's lawns, doesn't detract from land value, etc.

Of course I don't see the need for this service anyway, but still...

i already cleared a spot out in my backyard for them to put the VRAD there for the neighborhood.

To be honest.....

.... I'm betting MOST people will give them permission as long as at&t just talks with them and they have a little input as to where the boxes go. For example:

"Please don't place that in the middle of my front lawn" or "Um right there blocks my view as I try and come out of my driveway.... ... how about we put it in the corner over here or around the side here?"

Bingo, problem solved. Sure there will always be those jerks who say "NO!!!!" but I'll bet in that case the next neighbor is more accommodating.... Especially if he gets hooked up first

Personally, if it was me I'd be like "How about right here ----> (Point)" and I'd be happy to be so close to the VRAD, means top sync rates

Re: To be honest.....

I'd say no. Not that I'm a jerk or anything, but I wouldn't want a 7' tallbox in my front yard. I think most people would refuse. The best way to get approval from the owner would be monetary compensation / free service.

Re: To be honest.....

Put it in my back yard! Nobody will see it there, I'll even clear a place for it. Oh, and here's a CAT6 wire, yeah. Can you please connect it for me to your box?

tell ya what

Tell you what.. AT least have it so I can get the service (( not place the damn box in my yard and tell me i'm serviced from another box thats too far away and that i'm sol )) and i'm game... You could always shallow plant with your hands some small shrubs or something to cover it up.. Blame the terrorist or something ;-p

Though i'm on sprints wireless with no landline now.. So I maybe bias of the situation..

great job AG :(

i have a feeling that this will result in much slower deployment of Uverse, perhaps a complete halt for connecticut, good job AG for ensuring connecticut has poor broadband. the one company actually building a network that actually deploying a little bit of fiber may stop completely now. i highly doubt that there are a lot of land owners that will allow a VRAD to be on their property (how is this any different from having a power transformer on the ground? they are like 3'x3'x4' in size. maybe i'm just missing something).

i'm doubting it is possible to drastically shrink the cabinent, so i guess they could put a bunch underground, but even that may not be possible.

i've read a few posts on how verizon seems to have 'solved' the problem. except there some major differences: 1-the fiber nodes are passive and don't need to do need to do anything really complex like interfacing a fiber line to a whole bunch of copper lines so the boxes are much smaller; 2-most fiber splitting boxes are mounted on poles and the last time i checked, verizon is giving preferences to places in which they don't have to dig.
