When will AT&T

Offer just an Internet + VoIP solution ?
Sure, you can jump through some hoops, or get plain DSL (1.5Mbps in my case), but then AT&T won't let you port your number if you're a legacy DSL customer.

Why do they make this so difficult ?

Rick?

Where's the long winded anti-AT&T rant from Rick? I feel cheated.

Give Rick See Profile some time.

I saw in another thread yesterday he was on a roll and probably has to reload!

Re: Rick?

Rick's on-target editorials are far more interesting than T's weekly press release/announcment that they have deployed another VRAD. Yawn!

Re: When will AT&T

It's because At&t focus is television not broadband if they wanted every one to have up to 25 megabits they could easily. The problem is they have a personal grudge against cable company's. When they see a cable company taking away their bread and butter land lines they want to go for cables bread and butter television service.

I guess it all breaks down to money. Apparently to AT&T the demand is an alternative to cable or Satellite tv, even if the market is saturated with video providers. U verse is AT&Ts lame attempt to compete with cable television, its not about bringing broadband to new people or expanding speeds, its about video.

Re: Rick?

It's one thing to to disagree with some one its totally with out class to insult some one. Rick is right about AT&T they really need to deploy fiber to the home in order to compete.
I guess the thought of the cost makes AT&Ts investors cringe.

It isn't some strange hatred of cable- television is way more profitable than internet service, even with carriage fees.

Is 'long-winded' an insult?
Is 'anti-AT&T' an insult?
Is 'rant' an insult?

That pretty much covers my post, don't think I put any insults in there. You, however, just insulted me with the 'with out class' remark.

If I was going to insult people, I'd just turn this account over to my wife. She's a pro!

Re: When will AT&T

I tend to agree... Cable companies, however offer Internet and VoIP only packages, while Telco does not... even though Telco has been primarily DSL+POTS for many years.

Telco = at&t in this case, I presume...

There was a post in an earlier thread that claimed there were union problems between U-Verse installers and DSL installers that prevented TV-free U-Verse from being sold, though I don't know how accurate that really is.

Pretty accurate.
I'm on DSL-Extreme, and they are not allowed to resell any portion of Uverse, and even require DSL to be installed with POTS line (per AT&T)

AT&T isn't publically selling TV-free Uverse unless its a 'business' (BBR has an article) and charges more.
I've been able to have AT&T over the phone sell me TV free Uverse, but they also told me that I could keep my existing DSL running at the same time.

Your post seemed like it intended to be insulting from where I sit.
