i am a power lineman and accidents still happen regularly. We have a union and huge safety programs that our employers are forced to keep up with(insurance). We do not want to be rushed by our employers because thats when accidents happen. These cell phone guys appear that they are in our situation of the 70s. whats so hard with belting on? |

Can't wait to see big Hugh from Ice Road Truckers up on a tower. I think the thing would collapse. |

Ok, so this is just Darwin at work. Do we need to really spend all sorts of our time and money to come to the conclusion that people who disregard safety protocols and engage in dangerous activities often die? -- This isn't fair! I was only supposed to hate just ONE presidential candidate! |

| Tower Work
Hello,
I recently Got A job with a wireless contractor doing low ground work. (I would climb a tower for a living despite I am afarid of heights) I had asked about tower work and they told me that due to the safety issues and regulations its a whole different can of worms. Either the climbers are not being trained properly or are being careless when they climb towers. I do believe the article when it says this is one of the most deadiliest jobs in america. Then not to mention when towers are camafloughed like trees does this make it harder to work on them? I dont know I dont know too much about tower work really, Not to mention how are you suppose to belt on? all you have is a vertical pole coming several hundred feet out of the ground the only way you are going is down! (Gravity) I had assumed they used boom lifts or bucket trucks in order to access the antennas and pannels on towers. |

Safety equipment was made for a reason. They should take all risks for not using them. Should it be death or what ever. |

It's a good thing you're on low ground work. Don't go up without training. Seriously.
What makes this a new story, or one that is being updated is that OSHA is not looking at the accidents, which is what they were doing before. But that they are now looking at the industry and its practices.
Probably going to boil down to "is there training", and not many would dispute that. But more important, "is there *adequate* training", and OSHA may decide the fatality rate is sufficient proof against. |
