Deploy to all city residents by 2014.

Competition is a good thing!

The simple fact that there will be competition in the Television market in NYC is great news. I still don't see why they would 'wiggle' out of servicing the 5 boro's. They have hooked up the Northern suburbs and the picture quality, HD choices and free giveaways (19' LCD TV's) have people flocking away from the Cable Companies.
Its about time.

NYC FiOS & Labor

This ought to help speed negotiations of a new labor contract. The current contract between Verizon and it's labor unions from the Mid-Atlantic region up into New England, including NYC, expires August 2nd.

You will probably see it in south flushing before I see it in Brooklyn. Long Island is already wired up.

I'm expecting billboards and public service announcements to educate the NY public that unlike copper, there is no need to rip fiber optic cable out of buildings because it has no resale or salvage value.

I'll believe it when I see it. Won't happen anytime soon in my little walkup

MDU are still more difficult

MDU are still more difficult to deal with for FIOS. Any time there is competition some will go there, but the question really is why? Verizon is more expensive and offers similar programming. I'm not convinced that Verizon can easily deploy MDU's (Multiple dwelling units ). The T.V deployment to me is no big deal, and if anyone has heard of a company called RCN which has been around for a lot longer. The fact is that only Time Warner will have Start Over and their going to be adding more channels as noted from their website.
