1 edit | Embarq It should be a violation of wiretap laws if a third party is allowed to "monitor" communications just so they can target you with ads. It is also a violation of the same wiretap laws for the carrier to monitor the traffic for those types of purposes. Just because they claim it is legal does not make it so.

| It never ends, does it? I'm personally starting to tire of hearing so many different companies say that all these types of things are "for the consumer's benefit", which we all know is total bullsh!t. In fact, when they say that it's a pretty good indicator that we as consumers are about to get royally screwed.
All these companies know that the majority of consumers either don't want it, or that most of them don't even realize what's happening to them. This trickery and deception seems to work pretty well at fooling the political leaders, though, or else so many strange things wouldn't keep happening to consumers, that is unless of course there's some money in it for some of the politicians... but surely that would never happen! -- oz

| Google does not want DPI to succeed. Ads that are served by this debacle will actually overwrite ads on Google search results that Google advertisers have paid for. This will take a cut of Googles revenues because those ads will never be clicked on.
ISP's and nebuad are the only ones benefitting from this. Search advertising does not.
