OK that first link made me laugh

DS has competition in hand held gaming from the iPhone LMAO are they serious! Cause kids (talking young kids 8-12) are going to ask for a iPhone to play games on.
Now going on topic..I wonder if they will make you do some contract thing to have the Wii.

Really?

Considering how some other cable companies have not lived up to their promises regarding the giving away of zero-cost items, would someone who signs up for this really expect that they will get a Wii?

I am also wondering... does the Wii offer a movie download service like the PS3 or the Xbox 360 do? If the Wii does not offer such a service, then that might also explain the decision for Comcast to go with the Wii.

No it doesn't.

I use my PS3 to download HD movie trailers. I also have Comcast broadband. Considering how long it takes to download one of these trailers, I have some misgivings about trying Sony's HD movie download service. I will eventually try it out of course, I am curious to see how well it works.

and lots easier to give, a few mouse clicks and hit the box and they have their channels.

free stuff generates calls to tech support "wheres my Wii".

This employee shouldn't have spoken so soon...

...because I think that the employee doesn't know the terms and conditions of the promotions yet (which a lot of reps do NOT), and the T&C of this promo is going to be the real kicker and nice fodder for sites like Consumerist and BBR.

Only the truly clueless and braindead will be interested in this offer from the ISP that originated secret throttling/caps.

terms and cond suck

Terms for this offer are:
Platinum bundle (Triple play)
2 Year commitment

If you cancel you get hit with a prorated cancellation fee

Plus some paperwork you have to fill out and send in within 30 days of install

Used to be a free DS

When I signed a 2 year contract about a year and a half ago I got a free Nintendo DS. It came promptly as well. The Comcast service has been great in my area and I have to applaud them for that. As for this offer, it is just gravy.

And I suppose you know the T&C better than an employee? Plus, I doubt this is some first line employee talking about this.

Or are you an employee yourself?

That, or the obscure fact that it is the cheapest of the three????

Wiis are STILL in short supply?

Sheesh! In almost two years, you'd think they be close to market saturation.

BUt you can't play multiplayer because your router borks the connection. Or Comcast itself does. Or something.

I've already got a Wii. How about, instead of giving me the Wii and charging high prices for the services, discount my total cost per month by $10 for the length of the contract?

Econ 101, kids. When demand exceeds supply, you get to charge whatever you want.

Comcast giving a Wii as a promotion - not rat poison

You would thing Comcast was forcing free rat poison on new customers instead of giving away a free game console. Some people need to get a grip. It seems anything Comcast does, no matter how benign, is attacked as if the devil was trying to lure people to the nether regions.

But the Nintendo Wii is the cheapest of the three current-generation consoles?

Indeed, Econ 101 would state that Nintendo should raise the prices until there isn't a shortage or excess of consoles (i.e. supply = demand) to obtain maximum revenue, wouldn't it?

Re: This employee shouldn't have spoken so soon...

I'd rather not answer the final question (though I think you can get the hint), but I challenge you to call in to your local call center right now and ask what the specifics of the terms and conditions are.

I can't speak for the Florida market, but there is currently one stip in the Philly market that is just flat out a joke unless Comcast plans on giving customers the Wii on the day of install, which I am confident that they will not be doing.

Like I'm inferring, there's going to be more to this than just the "sign a 2 year agreement, blah blah blah" - at least in one market, and once people catch wind of what it is, we'll all just be shaking our heads and laughing. Or to put it another way, if I were a new customer, I think I'd be saving a lot more money by calling into my local Toys R Us every day and hoping they'll have one or two in stock.
