| | 99% of people hold their iPhone wrong, blocking the antenna! Most people don't know that the iPhone antenna is located on the bottom, both original the iPhone and the iPhone 3G.
If you don't block the bottom, you will get at least twice the reception bars.
TRY IT!
I personally hate tha Apple placed the antenna on the bottom on the new iPhone 3G also

Maybe try holding the phone upside-down.

I personally hate tha Apple placed the antenna on the bottom on the new iPhone 3G also I don't understand why manufacturers (not just talking about Apple) are designing these phones to have antennas placed near the mouth piece. Of course your going to obstruct it... now you also have to worry about how to hold your phone while you talk? Perhaps going back to the old way of putting the antenna at the TOP of the phone would solve some problems. A nice "hidden" option would be to have a tiny antenna at the top of the phone that you could extend so you don't obstruct the signal. Oh wait... that's not in style right? Hard to find these days unlike back in the late 80's 90's era as everyone now is too obsessed on smaller... thinner... sleeker.... shinier....lighter....ect that an extendable antenna is just NOT an option. lol

SeandhiSeeing From a New LevelPremium join:2003-04-19 Humble, TX | No Connectivity Issues Here I have other issues with my new iPhone, but connectivity is not one of them. I work in an area with 3G, but where I live does not. With my HTC phones, the 8525 and the Tilt, I would drop calls on the changeover from 3G to Edge, but it hasn't happened on my new phone. -- You're an enlightened cat, and I dig that.

| | Central DFW no problems Absolutely no problems here in the Dallas/Fort Worth mid-cities area. Including several long calls where I drove through several non-3G areas near the airport. My office building also has terrible 3g and I often am on a call as I walk out the door, going from Edge to 3G. I've not had a single dropped call in the two weeks I've had it.
Let's concentrate on it's real problems, like how it sucks batteries faster than a '69 GTO does gasoline!

| | 3g network problem Its got to be a network problem. I have a razr v3xx which is full 3g. BEfore about am onth or so ago on 3g i would drop calls all the time. Then here on long island the day the iphone 3g launched all of a sudden everything changed and 3g never had a problem again.
I am thinking that att's 3g is still being worked on in many areas of the country .

| | Flawless here The iPhone is Flawless here as well as friends that have them in other areas.
I have both, the NOTWork (Verizon) and AT&T. I'm supposed to carry Verizon for work and the service and sound quality is vastly inferior to what we get with AT&T. It has been this way before the iPhone and is true with the iPhone. I forward my Verizon # to my AT&T to have reliable service.
This has been true for me here in Central PA and in the NYC Metro area. It's been true for me traveling on AT&T and their network has been pretty much flawless.
There have been issues, but no major showstoppers and with all the increased users (adding 1 million in a weekend) it was to be expected in the beginning. Those got quickly resolved.
Verizon has a great brainwashing campaign, but the NOTwork is not the be all and end all.

| | Its the phone I found that when I tested out a couple of different handsets that when I use a higher end phone the signals are fine and no dropped calls. Testing a Moto V3, V9 and a new Ipaq910 - the V3 always dropped calls at the house when I was on T-mobile then again when I tested on AT&T. I bought the V9 last year when it was one of the few 3G phones available before the the rollout on AT&T. Clear as crystal and getting half meg download on the data side. The Ipaq 910 is even faster and just as clear wth flawless network jumps. Then I have some friends come over with their phones knowing my house sits in a low signal zone for all the networks in the area. The next door neighbor has both Iphone versions and never can keep calls up and data is spotty. My guess its the antenna package they used. We found that the free or cheap phones had the same problems as the Iphones. The higher end phones and smartphones that the friends had all did well. | |

| Bound to happen Even though satisfaction % for the iPhone was high in April (nearly 80%) of this year, I'd love to see it now. With huge production runs in Chinese factories, crap is bound to come down the chute sooner or later. Add to that this Edge/WiFi problem and ... ah well. Oil well that ends well. -- | |
