Comments on news posted 2008-08-25 18:26:37: In line with forum rumors from last fall, a Comcast insider tells me that AT&T should be announcing the launch of U-Verse in the Jacksonville market sometime this week. ..

No Blast! Yet...

For what its worth, U-verse has been available in areas from Miami to Palm Beach (South Florida) for almost a month now, but still no sign of Blast. I'm hoping that it's still in the works or they are not bothering because this area is already in the DocSIS 3.0 rollout process...

Competitiveness

Hopefully this will spur some healthy competition since there will now be three players in that area. I don't think prices will drop (and if it does, not that significant), but I do expect some good incentives.

Madera

Madera from what I've heard from another member on here, suppose to get U-Verse, so hopefully by the end of this year it will be available.

Competition

I live in an old neighborhood so I doubt I'll be able to get U-Verse. All I can get from them now is 56K but if it forces Comcast to bump up my speed package to Blast then I'll take it.

There doesn't need to be a winner or a loser- in most markets there's enough customers that both the telco and the cableco can both make money, and having more players in the market than one means at least one or two of the benefits of competition can float down to the end-user.

Re: Competition

Living in an old neighborhood actually helps your chances. The newer technologies (i.e. FITL) don't have a deployed U-verse solution yet. Copper facilities (read: old) are the first ones being targetted.

at&t offers

Nobody talking about the 6mb offer from at&t for $35 without a contract, plus complimentary Wi-Fi access at over 17,000 hot spots. What kind of Wi-Fi can I get from Comcrap when I'm out and about?

Re: Competition

The VRAD delivers the last mile to you via copper. If you have FITL, no U-verse for you at the moment. I was specifically talking about the F2.
