It's alive alive alive!

It's alive alive alive!

Rates seem resonable.

25 bucks for home, 30 for on the go, or 50 for 2 modems.

I was just on the site and looking at the terms and stuff and I saw nothing about a cap? Is This True? If it is, I cant wait till it comes to san antonio.

 Upstream

The upstream isn't too bad ... $35/month for 2-4Mbps down and 1-2Mbps up. Nice.

Laptop pricing

If that includes unlimited usage and an eventual widespread buildout then that's a nice deal.

Hmmm... this sounds actually competitive...

... considering what a ripoff AT&T et al will charge you when you need it both on your phone and your laptop and considering what an utter piece of shit service you get from AT&T since iTards flooded the network (here in Downtown NYC I can't reach even 500kbit/s on my TyTn anymore.)

$50 for both is actually OK - it's twice as much as the unlimited AT&T but if it, unlike AT&T, will actually give you the promised bandwidth then it's a lot better deal, not to mention the ridiculous tethering-limitations, proxy- and other issues with AT&T's network.

ditching EV-DO once its here

Once XOHM comes to Kansas City, im leaving Sprints EV-DO for this as long as i can get speeds faster than what i get with EV-DO now.
I've seen speeds in none peak times pushing 2.6Mbps.

Its only 15$ cheaper for the home service and faster speeds. Very good deal.

now just imagine... if they could incorporate XOHM+EvDO Rev. A on a single card.

You roaming outside of XOHM coverage area and still be able to go online using EvDO.

Better than most residential on the upstream. Very nice to see at least a nearly symmetrical package being offered so one can download and upload fast.

Re: No Caps?

lol, yea right!

Amount of usage
XOHM may provide various Service plans with different characteristics, including different speeds and usage limitations. You agree to comply with these limitations. In addition, your use of the Service may not result in an excessive burden of system or network resources, may not weaken network performance, and may not restrict, inhibit, interfere with, or degrade any other user's use of the Service. To ensure a high-quality experience for its entire subscriber base, XOHM may use various tools and techniques designed to limit the bandwidth available for certain bandwidth intensive applications or protocols, such as file sharing.

1 edit
2-4/ down and 1-2 up

it shows on the site what plans prices and in the above news story on this site

the AUP gives sprint/xohm to modify everything and anything, at anytime "ie. caps, throttle, blocking, port blocking, etc" and you have no say so. without warning or notice to boot!

overall i would wait to see when there are many users on with xohm to see what limitations/caps this company will put in. which will be another no good service overall in the end

You can get WiMAX/EVDO in a laptop now, so I would imagine this is a definite possibility.

Rates

Don't overlook that the rates go up after 6 months.

Home is really $35 a month
On the go is $45 a month
Pick 2 is $65 a month

just point out the obvious

unless your "mobile" and traveling somewhere... a simple wifi hotspot will do nicely and much more inexpensively, possibly free!

it's also quite obvious they will provide service on their terms and not yours.. so why even bother subscribing?

let sprint choke on their own stupidity, and that goes for all wireless carriers doing broadband! this is a simple grab at preventing voip and other value services from crippling cell phone subscriptions. boycott the service until they get it right.

Re: No Caps?

not bad on the speeds, kind of bad on where they can modify anything at anytime. I just saw a pic on the xohm site and they guy is playing a game on his laptop. Maybe this would be great for online gaming?

Re: just point out the obvious

WTH are you babbling about? There are a lot of people who are "mobile" and "traveling somewhere" pretty much every single day. There are also many who are looking for choices beyond very limited incumbent offerings in their area. How is competition bad?

There should be a website that people could go to learn about their options. They could have forums and news articles about up and coming services. I think www.broadbandreports.com or something would be fitting. Oh well, it would just choke on it's own stupidity.

Re: No Caps?

would really depend on how far from a tower you would be and how many people are on at any given time.

only time will tell when more users get on the service

Integrity, lack there of...

It really means, "until we decide to change it". Or rather, "we're desperate for customers." Sprint has been known to break peoples contract. Sprint doesn't always hold up to their end of the deal.

Re: just point out the obvious

Actually sounds like they ARE getting it right.

The modem (hmm ZyXEL) actually has some phone ports on it for VoIP down the road, probably less expensive than cableco service...I'd think more in line with what T-Mobile offers. And the modem isn't that much more expensive than your typical cable modem. That's a very good thing. It's also nice that the ExpressCard (and probably soon the USB stick) will be just $60. Much less expensive than mobile broadband, especially considering there's no contract.

It's interesting that it looks like the ended up not using Alvarion network equipment...it's all Nokia\Siemens, motorola, Alcatel-Lucent.

Pricing is really good, comparable to low-tier DSL or cable, without the cable...with the only startup price being the device you're getting, as opposed to a $50+ installation fee, plus the cost of renting or buying a modem.

Hopefully some people can test it out and run the service until Sprint gets mad at them, so we know where the caps are. But having cable-speed upstream and decent downstream speeds for $35 or less per month...that's just great. If it was in my area, and the caps were good, I'd switch over.

What's interesting is that Xohm is being deployed mainly in high population areas for now, and in Baltimore you've also got VZ DSL (slightly worse deal than Xohm), Comcast cable and Believe Wireless. Though at the price Xohm is offering, Cable is much more expensive, DSL is a little slower and Believe is more expensive for a comparable connection.

In short, sounds like a winner, especially when the combo rA\WiMax card comes out and service comes to more place.

One more thing: Xohm sounds like it'd be faster than your average hotspot, which might have a T1 going to it. I'll take 4/2 over 1.3/1.2 or so any day
