Short term credit issues are affecting a lot of companies. AT&T is not alone. It sucks for the consumer for sure. |

This is so when you change LD companies, they still get that months fees.
Not really a credit freeze issue, as the monthly fee is pure profit. |

| What took them so long?
Local telephone charges have been prepaid for as long as I can remember.
When long distance stopped being a per minute charge for most people and started being a monthly all-inclusive fee, they should have switched then. Probably just mgt inertia that made them wait so long.
As to the charge that this was some last minute cash grab, that doesn't fly. If you go to the msg thread mentioned above »Fair Warning. AT&T Switching to Advanced billing for LD Serv posters have noted that AT&T has been warning of the change to pre-pay for months now. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. I got tired of 15-cents-a-minute and got a second set of phones and VOIP. I've already saved more than the annual cost of the VOIP and the extra phones. |

This is a terrible time for any sort of takeover- VZ isn't going to be able to borrow money either, plus VZ is still quite a bit smaller than T and so they'd need to borrow quite a bit. (Market cap of 88 billion vs. 166 billion) |

You'll love VZ's $4 a month minimum LD fee even if you don't use LD...
I left VZ's LD because of it. -- If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well. |

I have Comcast Digital Phone which is actually better than AT&T's land line service and much less expensive (for the time being). I am paying $20 a month for a year for unlimited local and long distance. Then, it will go up to $40 after the year is up. That is still better than the $73 I was paying with AT&T. -- God saved me from myself! Thank you, Lord, in the Name of Jesus! |

| Thank heavens I started cutting way back...
I sure am glad I started cutting back on my international calls a month and a half ago. I did it so my family there could have more money, but now I won't be able to send them as much, darn!
There is a good side to this though: I called and complained a little and they reduced my US unlimited to 9 bucks, my international to 5.95 + 17 cents a minute to The Phils., and lowered my DSL another 5 bucks. All in all I am now going to be paying something like 20 a month less.
I live on a fixed income but can't get medicaid so I don't qualify for the lower rate, so she tried to find other ways to reduce my bill.
Boy oh boy, now I have to tell my girl overseas that money will be tighter than planned. I suppose this is just the beginning of what may come... -- Obama isn't experienced enough?
