It seems to me that they stand to benefit from this particular pissing match...

2 edits | AG Blumenthal right on repair std; wrong on "in state"
The Attorney General is right in holding AT&T to state law on repair time for phones. quote: By state law, 90 percent of all phones must be repaired within 24 hours. The average wait time for AT&T to respond is two days, Blumenthal said.
But having a call center in state is out of his jurisdiction. That complaint is pure politics and his response to union voting solidarity."Dispatchers in Michigan cannot do troubleshooting and direct repair service in Connecticut homes," Blumenthal told affected workers. "They do not know Connecticut and cannot properly prioritize work and provide equal, adequate levels of service." Obviously he never heard of maps or google maps service. Whether the cust svc center is in Ct or Mi, the workers at the svc center don't go out in the field anyway and never see the field workers in person. They can direct svc as easily from Mi as they can from Ct. -- My BLOG .. .. Internet News .. .. My Web Page Ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya punk? |

| reply to Corydon It is fractured throughout the state, but Comcast, Cox, Charter, and Cablevision are the main companies. This map shows how it breaks down.

And to be truthful, most people in this state are ticked off enough with their area's cable provider that this situation with AT&T won't convince them to change in droves. I'll be switching to UVerse myself when the fiber is finished here in a month or two regardless how much Blumenthal whines (which is always a lot). I just hope AT&T finishes my area before the DPUC makes it impossible for them to do anymore work. |

| Good for CT!
Although everyone is viewing this like its a single incident, this is just 20 years of pent up frusteration loose and Conneticut is just the one who is standing up to AT&T. This should be happening in every state! Apparently Conneticut either has ethical law makers or the AT&T lobbyists somehow missed lining their pockets as they have done in every other state. We are 20th in the world in terms of broadband penetration despite being a distant #1 in terms of wealth. Over the last 20 years AT&T has accomplished everything from -astro turf campaigns (how the media overlooked this I will never understand...maybe because AT&T is a mojor client for every media outlet?) -forced bundling -halting fiber expansion in favor of existing dsl and copper -suing Baton Rouge when they tried to implement their own fiber when AT&T refused to build it -crushing all competition (SDSL and the entire ISP industry) -Restoring the monopoly -Negating EVERYTHING the Telecom Act of 1996 accomplished. -Outsourcing American jobs over seas.
All of these things negatively affect us as consumers. And who is the big winner in all of this? The stock has barely moved since 1998. The only winner I can identify is former CEO Ed Whitcare who took his $120 million plus perks retirement package. The actions of this company are stunting American infastructure growth. How do they do it? Lobbying where the government looks the other way. How much have they spent in lobbying over the last 10 years: »www.opensecrets.org/lobby/client···ear=2005 80 million.
Sorry to get off topic, but here's a list of who has spent the most on lobbying over the last 10 years: »www.opensecrets.org/lobby/top.ph···exType=s Look at the names of the company's on that list and draw your own conclusions. Until lobbying is curtailed, we will continut to be a country by the corporation and for the corporation. |

| Get them out
ATT needs to leave. We are surrounded by Verizon on all the states surrounding us and were the only state in New England with ATT. FIOS would be huge in Connecticut. It would beat Cox and Comcast, but Cablevision, which I have is doing a great job with competing with FIOS in New York and Connecticut Subscribers get the benefits. |

Sucks to be newly fired people. Were they laid off or fired? Were they fired for being part of the customer service problems or laid off as pawns?
But good news for Michigan. They've been hurting for a long long long time. |

AT&T and its previous incarnations have a streak of evil in them. They play dirty and don't care about it. Firing of 60 CT workers is just a recent example. |

If I am reading the link to opensecrets correctly, Verizon has spent more than ATT on lobbying. Is that OK since they are deploying fiber, we can turn the other cheek? Makes sense to me??? |
