So your now paying $15-20 more a month for HSI because of the "How dare not subscribe to our over priced TV services" penalty ?

Actually, the 8Mbit tier doesn't have much of a discount for bundled users here.

Re: Lost me

Naa, its more like you pay more because of the "our technology won't let us block basic cable and provide internet so we have to charge you for the cable your gonna get anyway" penalty.

Minus "taxes and fees" of course.

Gas Prices

Considering the plunge in gas and oil prices since July, falling from about $4 here to about 2.70 (and still dropping), I wonder when they'll lower their rates to adjust for that..........

2.70 ?? where the hell can I get that price ?? I just filled up the truck, 2 5 gallon containers (for the weekend of fun, 5 dirtbikes and 6 quads) and paid $3.51 and thought that was great.
Now on the price adjustments , look at YOUR own comapny and see if they have raised prices too.. I bet they have. Have you been to the grocery store lately ? What about your fast food ? Ya see the trend ? Mc D's used to have almost all "value meals" for under $5.50 Now the cheapest is $5.99 ... Thats rougly a %10 increase , yet cable is only going up near 4%

California gas is always more expensive than most other places around the country. Remember, we have to pay for the incredibly competent state government and air police.

Yup it was worse when I lived in Concord CA , we where less than 10 miles from the major refineries (Martinez) and paid the highest prices in the state/country Yet we had almost NO transportation costs. That said, going up through Mi Wuk/ Twain Harte it was still almost $4/gal .. again thats up in the mountains though.

I'm here in Hercules... 8 miles from Chevron, ~2 miles from Unocal in Rodeo, and about 20 miles from Shell.

$3.50 is about the going price. YAY!

Stockton, CA.

Just saw the first $2.99 in years around here-at the station at the end of my street.

Guess where I'll be dropping $20 in at on Monday on the way to work? Everyone else near the freeway is still at least $3.09 to $3.15. Be interesting to see on Monday if they have fallen down to the same level.

The fuel truck was parked there yesterday when I left though, and the new price was up when I came back, so he must have got a real good rate on that delivery to drop down 7 cents.

They need to invent a 50 state blend of gasoline to further bring down prices, or at least 25 state blend.

Your information is a little outdated. Under former Governor McGreevy's reforms our auto insurance rates have dropped dramatically and insurers are rushing back into the state.

2.70 is in NJ. I have DirecTv and Verizon, and DirecTV has not raised prices that I know of, although I'm on a 1 year contract.

Honestly, the prices you mention should be coming down too, but they are not. Look at the charts of various commodities like Corn, soybeans, wheat, etc, that have crashed on average about 50%. The gas excuse from Comcast IMHO is a little lame. If they want to use that as an excuse when it goes up, then they should remember that when prices fall.
And, this is about cable prices, not food prices. Also, the things you mention above HAD a double-whammy of higher fuel AND food costs. Comcast can't claim higher food costs can they?

As far as your gas prices, different (more expensive) blends are required by law in California, and your state taxes are higher too. That's why Cal. is always more expensive than NJ for gas.
Our gov't makes up for that break on gas by having the most expensive of everything else though.......

Its down 3.05 in CNJ, expect it drop some more, as stations slowly lower each day. Comcast will never lower prices.

gas in most states are above 2.70 a gallon. sound like you live in no man land. also even those gas has gone down it did not go down to what is was before the really big increases. so even thought gas has gone down it still cost more than what is was before. so yes gas still cost more.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of price fixing in my area. We are by no means in no man's land. We have two major interstate highways going through our town, I-10 and I-25. We are located about 40 miles away from El Paso, a large population center for our region. We also have a refinery that isn't far away and we are still over $3.50 /gal. here. Just up the interstate in Albuquerque, there are reports of gas for only $2.83. Just wait until the elections are over and you can expect these prices to rise.

No man's land? NJ is densely populated, this isn't the north slope of Alaska LOL

There are several states with prices under $3. While it is higher than it was before, it has fallen sharply, yesterday was the biggest one day decline for the national average in history. If your gas is too expensive, write your Congressman, and either get rid of the boutique fuel that's raising your price, or tell them the voters will vote them out unless they lower taxes.

those who are self-employed or get reimbursements have seen a bigger allowance already. For those who aren't self-employed, transportation is not the company's responsibility, therefore, it isn't part of normal pay anyway.

hypocritical?

Sorry, you don't understand the point. Using gas as an excuse is lame if in fact, there is no reduction when gas prices fall, and they have been falling hard. Too many blame things on higher energy prices, but they do it also when they are falling, then many times don't readjust. I'm not the one being hypocritical for pointing out facts. I'll take back my comments if and only if Comcast lowers prices if current trends in the energy markets continue. If they are so sensitive to gas prices that they feel the need to explain it in an increase, then they have opened themselves up to legitimate criticism if prices fall and they don't drop the rates. They would have been better off saying that costs of operations increased.
Simple as that.

Funny they say that when I got an isert in my mail saying that my broadband would be increasing by $2 per month......not that $24 a year is going to break me....just seems contradictory when they said they weren't raising broadband prices.

HSI & VOIP remain same

HSI & VOIP are being revenues are being fueled by subscriber growth/additions. When the growth of VOIP and HSI subs tops out and Comcast needs to pad its numbers, just like on the TV side when it topped out, we'll see the increases start to roll in then.

They're so over-priced to begin with that their profit margin is sufficient to cover any "inflation" amount as it is.

I don't think so. VOIP is way overpriced. I laugh everytime they offer me their $33/month discount price while I am paying $24/month full price with Vonage. And Vonage quality is perfect.

I think the fact that Comcast is a "cable" company, has a lot to do with how they manage their cable prices. Probably they need to show some kind of reason to try and keep the FCC off their arses. Plus, shareholders probably still look primarily at TV profits which undoubtedly is their cash cow still.

I think he's talking about the total TV profits, not the margin per sub; "video" revenue (and profits) far outstrips HSI and CDV combined (due to the huge number of subscribers).
