With Qwest doing this, can you say crushed under the pressure of Cable MSOs ramping up D2 speeds and deploying D3 gear and speeds? (Granted, D3 spec is damned expensive for the time being.) |

It seems insane to me that any telco is still rolling out anything but pure fiber. It will just come back and hurt them in the long run. ADSL2+ can't even come close to competing with DOCSIS 3.0 or FTTH. |

said by wvcaver :Why such low upload speed ? Because they chose the DSL that only do a max of 1024 Kbps on a perfect line.
They can easily offer bonded DSL, but do not. |

ADSL2+ can't even come close to competing with DOCSIS 3.0 or FTTH. it already has if they would have been thinking ahead instead of spending millions bilking copper they could already have miles of fiber up and then they would have been able to at least provide 1.5 dsl to millions of people that will never be able to get dsl or uverse with the severe limitations of copper.
not to mention that many of those people will never be able to get cable, and they could have just about all of those customers.i know because i am in one of those areas that cable stops 2 miles from me,and dsl stops 1 mile from me.charter said they will never extend to me without me paying thousands for the lines, and dsl cant reach me without remote dslams and removing the old load coils
i know that a lot of places are just way to spread out to be cost effective for tellco and cable, but if tellcos would have thought ahead they could have been stringing fiber, and been able to reach thousands of more people that would love to have at least 768 or 1.5 dsl i think they are a bunch of idiots and will never compete with cable on speeds.they will wake up one day and bite the bullet and start stringing fiber that's the only hope for them |

As much as I don't want to switch to Comcast, I don't have much of a choice given the limited amount of ISPs in Seattle. Everything out there in the form of re-branded Cable Internet or DSL either provide slower speeds or cost alot more (for speeds not much faster).
Qwest's new policy (as of this year) of threatening soft disconnections for not paying you're bill within 72 hours of the due date, was it for me. 5$ late fee I can handle, I normally don't get it, but when I do, I accept it. But what I wont accept is a 25$ soft reconnection fee. For a company that bills for the month in advance, they've got alot of nerve to disconnect long time users who don't pay their bill within 72 hours of the bills due date.
Seriously, more and more people are living paycheck to paycheck thanks to rising inflation, gas prices, housing, etc. While many of you are thinking of a un-funny reply to this post, its going to happen to you or someone you know soon. Your paycheck is shrinking and once in a while, you're going to be late in paying a bill by a few days or weeks. For those who have been living paycheck to paycheck for a few months, getting stung 25$ because you decided to fill up your gas tank and delay paying you're bill 2 weeks, its gonna suck.
In November, I will have had their DSL service for exactly 4 years.
PS The last time I spoke to Qwest about this combined 30$ late fee, they never did verify who I was. Didn't ask for the last 4 digits of my SSN, name, address. They just assumed the TSR who I originally spoke with verified it. Even when I brought it to their attention, they didnt stop and verify who I was. I'm pretty sure I can reproduce this when I call to cancel and post the phone call to some blog like the consumerist (they'll accept anything). |

Any chance of it getting to West Wash Park area soon in Denver? Last I checked it wasn't offered here...
Oh, and I assume you mean 20 Mbps...20 Kbps would have me partying like it's 1999....well more like 1995, but you get the picture. -- "Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too." |

No one is getting disconnected if they pay their bill 3 days late. You stated in another thread that you were closer to a month late. Pay your bills on time, problem solved. |

(Granted, D3 spec is damned expensive for the time being.) Cable has offered better speeds than most DSL providers for at least 6 years now and has yet to be "crushed". I doubt most users could tell the difference between 5M and 50M since they just use it for e-mail and web surfing anyways. |
