Oh for God's sake, let analog die already!

Not another extension! The rest of the world is already in the 21st century yet we're lagging behind.

For God's sake, let analog die already!

I can't help the people who refuse to listen. It's those people that even if you were to put a sign in front of their face telling them of the impending transition they'd still not listen. Forget it, no amount of "more time" is going to help these people.

"Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) and Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) want some of the stations to remain on the air in analog, if only to broadcast information about the DTV transition,"

For few days maybe. Then pull plug, move on, and get over it.

If only the Verizon CSRs worked this well.

I agree. Do the switch on schedule. And when the clueless wonder where their TV went to, then let them call a relative to straighten them out.

No kidding. They'll figure it out when they can't watch a rerun of Matlock.

Unfortunately, Apple is a big believer in the "Not invented here" philosophy. Android phones will get Flash & Silverlight before Apple gives in and puts something on their iPhone that they don't control.

Not invented here? That's why they have Microsoft Exchange support, Google, AOL and Yahoo services on it? Adobe is working on Flash for iPhone »blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/arch···842.html but like many Adobe products, they take forever to do anything.

If the extention is only used to tell people they need a conveter box then fine. We don't need an extention for those that refuse to move with the times. You could extend until 2020 and there be some schmucks with a 20 year old TV that refuse to upgrade and expect analog to be broadcast for them.

Here's a compromise... keep the analog channels open but only broadcast a black screen with white text on it saying to get with the times.

Why not, every week leading up to the deadline, for 6 weeks, reduce the size of the broadcast picture, increasing the size of the always-on banner saying "n days until this broadcast ends. See www.whatever.gov for more info about the digital conversion."

Start with a 90% reduced picture, and end with 50%.

The ONLY reason Apple even considers Microsoft Exchange support is to combat Window Mobile phones and Blackberries. I can't tell you how many people cry about getting their iPhones on our email system but we have a Blackberry server (that we are looking to possible get rid of.)

considering TVs have had digital tuners for how many years now and you can get a coupon for a box if you dont have a semi modern TV. or you can get Dish/DTV/Cable as another solution. there is more then enough ways to not get snow next year.

Exactly what was suggested

I don't know if he meant a black screen with white text but Commissioner Copps suggested that this be for the analog stations to broadcast just a message about the digital conversion and a phone number to call should viewers need guidance. He also carefully avoided suggesting that any of the digital stations moves to channels now occupied by analogs be delayed.

Re: Oh for God's sake, let analog die already!

I'm sorry but digital transmission is inherently more susceptible to interference (multipath is a particular killer) and when the interference reaches a certain threshold, you're screwed. I'm in one of those situations. ABC regularly comes through intermittently and is negatively affected by even vehicles driving by. It's an untenable situation for more people than some of you realize.
