Comments on news posted 2008-10-23 17:02:58: As we expected, the launch of the HTC G1 with Google's Android OS has highlighted the fact that T-Mobile's 3G network lacks coverage in a few tiny towns and hamlets, like oh, the cozy metropolis of Washington DC. ..

I know, T-Mobile even had massive disclaimers when you order it in a non-3G area.

Got mine the 20th. AMAZING device and living 45 mins out of chicago I'm rocking and rolling in 3G and wireless.
They'll have it everywhere they do business soon enough.
Have friends with Iphone 3g and they are all drooling at the openess of apps on my G1 and the quality of the G1.
It's sad that people here drop a line like yours without knowing what they are talking about especially when T-Mobiles explained where and when the 3G goes live.
Washington will go live soon enough and it was'nt T-Mobiles fault for delays as you certainly read above.

Good for them for at least admitting they don't have the coverage, though.

Piece of Junk

got my G1's yesterday and gotta say what a piece of junk. Phone crashed within the first 3 minutes of using it and had to take out battery to restart it. Phone is fat and ugly. 3G is slow I'll stick to my iPhone 3G for Personal & Business use and just use these for our Apps Development...

Re: haha

actually, mine works amazingly well in the bay area and my 3g speed tests have all been between 900kbps and 1100kbps. was quite a bit of fun watching pages load twice as fast next to my friends 3g iphone.

ninjatutle - we all know by now that if it isn't at&t, you hate it.

Re: haha

I pre-ordered my G1 and I got it two days ago. In Miami, T-mobile has 3G coverage readily. I'm always on 3G anywhere I go.

Good thing you didn't crash your Iphone because you wouldn't have been able to take the battery out.

no iPhone you just hold the Home & Sleep/Wake button and will hard reset it... very easy to do no need to take out battery...

Works great in the East Bay. Nice and fast. The only qualm I have is battery life surfing on the 3g network, seems about 2 hours by my estimation.

What do you have to buy a new Iphone when the battery dies? Or do you have take it to a service center to get the battery changed?

I don't even use a cell phone myself. Brain cancer and nickel rashes don't you know. I'd probably be safe from the cancer since I didn't start using a cell phone when I was kid(I was 6 when the "Brick" came out). But why take chances.

I don't think you have to worry about brain cancer as long as you keep wearing that tin foil hat you got on.

Oh no! Say it isn't so!

Sorry, but if you want to make some serious cash, develop on the iPhone with Cocoa APIs.

I'd prototype for Android but I'd focus on the iPhone.

I'm personally not surprised about Voicestream [I mean T-Mobile] as that company has been junk before it was separated from Western Wireless.

Here we go with the "JUNK" talk. Why is it junk??? cause it doesn't work well in your area? well in other areas it's excellent. I've had it for 6 yrs now and I've never had an issue with it.
And you can't blame the company for the people who buy the device eventhough the company says YOU DON"T HAVE 3G IN YOUR AREA.

At least they are trying to catch up to the rest of the companies out there. And they are trying to provide a worthy phone at that. I bet if they aren't trying to deploy 3G, you'll also have some quality words for them.

Re: haha

You get 2 hours? With 3G on I can watch the battery go down in like an hour. That is my major complaint.
