| Re: Base tier? said by Johkal :Quote: "Given we can't see Comcast's internal numbers, it's hard to tell if more customers are dropping down to Comcast's base tier, or springing for Comcast's new 22Mbps/5Mbps tier and a new DOC 3.0 modem." Why would customers drop down to Comcast's base tier of 768/384? I would consider it, at the right price point. I'm probably one of the few around here who is equally speed- and price-sensitive. In my area, I have a choice of 56k (with a good tailwind) dialup, satellite (with its attendant price/performance issues), or Comcast. Verizon is not going to bring FiOS to me anytime soon, and doesn't appear sufficiently motivated to extend DSL to my area. I suspect there are many other folks similarly situated.
768/384 at about $20/month would scratch my itch just fine given my Internet usage patterns. It wouldn't be that much of a performance hit from my current 6/1 that's currently provisioned at 4/384 (ref my posts on the Comcast help forums). -- Son, there's only one thing you need to know: HEMI

| Bandwidth I think 12Mbps/2Mbps is more than adequate for probably 80-90% of internet users nowadays.... I'd be quite happy with that myself, however it is always nice to have something a little faster for big downloads.... I don't think there is really any demand for a 50Mbps/10Mbps connection right now.... Of course, if you give people connections like that, they will eventually develop a widespread demand for bandwidth hungry applications.

| Are you still required to carry basic cable for cheaper rate I have looked on line at the Comcast site, it used to be you had to have basic lifeline cable or the fee for the internet was like $10 higher, well after price increase after price increase, lifeline basic is now about $20. So can will comcast let you drop cable tv altogether without a premium fee to save some cash? | |

| 16/2 is useless I would personally get the 22/5 plan. but if I were to get a cheaper tier I'd get the 14/2 plan over the 16/2. 16/2 for 10 bucks more? That's ridiculous and I can't imagine any educated people who are going to keep it, unless they don't realize their options. | |

| Re: what's more appealing quote: What's more appealing to you folks: 12Mbps/2Mbps for $42.95, 16Mbps/2Mbps for $52.95, 22Mbps/5Mbps for $62.95, or 50Mbps/10Mbps for $139.95?
The "sweet spot" for bandwidth-hungry people is obviously the 22mbit/5mbit plan, because after which the price suddenly doubles.
People downgrading from the 16/2 plan to the 12/2 plan makes sense, because quite honestly 4mbit isn't worth an extra US$120/year.
Recommendations for Comcast:
1) Drop the 12/2 plan entirely and give 16/2 to everyone for a slightly-increased price of US$47.95. That would make everyone happy, and simultaneously get them more money (from the previous 12/2 users).
2) Turn the 16/2 plan into 16/3 or 16/3.5. That would make the plan much more appealing, since what most of us want is an upstream increase! -- Making life hard for others since 1977. I speak for myself and not my employer/affiliates of my employer.

| 12/2 Sounds good Four and a half years ago I signed up for 3/284 for $42.99/mo. from dial up 28k. Since then speeds have climbed to my current 16/2 with powerboost for which I pay 32.99/mo. promo for 12 months. My monthly price normally runs the same $42.99 a month except for when they give me promo pricing. I will probably go to the 12/2 tier when promo is over as this is more than enough speed for me. I monitor my monthly usage and average about 20 gigs. I'm not so concerned about any caps. -- I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant. Nixon | |

They've done the studies and know that anything much above a MB or two down for half the price will leave them with half the revenue. --

1 edit | Higher caps with upper tiers... Tho I'm not in a docsys 3 area I wouldn't mind having a higher cap cuz I'm gonna get the fastest/highest tier avail regardless. It would however have to be a NICE cap to make me spring for the 50/10 tier if it were available in my area. If they keep the cap at 250 across the board, I think the 50/10 tier does warrant a higher cap for the price they're asking..without a doubt...esp when the fios competition has no caps!
And yeah...CC should have offered only 1.5Mb up with the 12Mb down, but I'm no marketing pro..lol
