Same issues as copper. It's just DSL basically.

 I've got 4 HD sets

I've got 4 HD sets, and am too far away to get Uverse.

AT&T has brought out a very limited offer, and seems to be trying to sell it at a discount to the limited number of people who can obtain it and are satisfied by it.

I guess it is good if you are covered.

AT&T can push 18Mbs, DVR, multiple HD but...

Still no VoIP. What gives ?
Do they want to collect those USF fees so badly that they still only offer POTS service here, just north of L.A., where Uverse has been available for a year and a half.

 Whooping on cable now...

Cable really needs to get moving on getting whole house DVR service rolling. This announcement certainly makes Uverse more attractive when compared to cable DVR service.

LoL, it's how AT&T defines fiber.

Well, we can move 90 miles north and get U-Verse Voice in Bakersfield.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of what U-verse areas are deployed and which ones still don't have U-Voice.

U-verse is neither fiber nor DSL, it's a service that can be delivered over either one, depending on where you live.

AT&T is generally doing FTTH in new areas and retrofitting older areas with VDSL.

DOCSIS 3.0 is great and all but i think FTTP is the way every thing needs to go and might as well do it now then have to upgrade twice seeing as how long it takes for the cable and telcos to do ANY upgrades

your right but its cheaper for the 3.0 upgrades. The way I look at is the cable modem will be around for the next 10 to 15 years before fiber will used at a persons home.

Re: AT&T can push 18Mbs, DVR, multiple HD but...

I agree... I suspect that the more affluent areas of SoCal, where they can milk POTS to death, or fear having issues and a real revolt, they'll wait it out for a while.
In highly competitive areas, or areas that they have nothing to lose (Detroit was an initial market, wasn't it), they'll offer the olive branch.

I'm at least glad that AT&T deployed 3G 850MHz here in Santa Clarita though.... it was long over due.
Now if only I can get that HTC Fuze.

Re: wish I could just get uverse

Fiber to the node/VRAD, VDSL to the rest of the way :P
