So my service with the iPhone would go over 110 bucks a month if I wanted to use it on my laptop. I'll pass.
I guess it is a nice alternative though to paying a separate 60 bucks a month for aircard service. |

Isn't Sprint everything plan give you unlimited text and data? Then just get a PDA and you tether all you want.
I have the old SERO ($30/month) and I can tether all I want. |

Lets see... Laptop card plan... $60/month, 5GB Typical tethered plan (laptop connect plan): $60/month ontop of voice service: 5GB cap iPhone tethered plan: $30 ontop of existing $30 data plan, 5GB cap + voice
I don't see much of a difference here.

Sprint charges $15/month for this feature if you have the "Everything Plan". (everything but tethered service)
With identical caps, I would have thought that the prices would be similar with an existing voice/data plan. |

Caps don't apply to business account for Sprint. We use EVDO cards for failovers for T-1s, and most of the techs at our company tether with their phones, and we don't incur any extra charges using probably 100+GB total on all 18 lines. (3 data cards, 15 phones) |

Unlimited teathering is included with the $20 unlimited data plan I have for my blackberry. Sure, it's only EDGE, but I don't live anywhere near one of AT&T's tiny 3G offerings anyway. |

People think unlimited tethering on a cell phone will be cheap.
Come on people, there isn't enough bandwidth to do this. |

Yeah, I'm doing it on my Sprint Treo for the normal $15/month data charge. And Sprint's EVDO coverage is about 5x more than ATT. |

I tether my Blackjack 2 to my laptop all the time. Works like a charm. Costs me $65/month for voice and unlimited data. I guess I am wondering how AT&T would know you are tethering your cell phone? Is the iPhone physically locked to prevent tethering? Will signing up for this plan get you a firmware upgrade or something?
I know that technically I am not supposed to tether my blackjack 2 to my PC without getting the Laptop Connect plan... but it works without it. I have an unlimited Media Net plan (grandfathered into it). $65/month after my companies employee discount. |

I have the old SERO ($30/month) and I can tether all I want. You arent suppose to and some have been given quite the hefty data bill for tethering with there phones without a Phone as Modem plan. Occasional usage seems to be OK though. -- Usenet Accounts |

said by moonpuppy :People think unlimited tethering on a cell phone will be cheap. Come on people, there isn't enough bandwidth to do this. Usually when I tether it's only to check my email or browse a couple websites while I'm in a hotel waiting around for something. I'm sure I'm not alone. $30 additional is absolutely outrageous for people like me who are very light tether users.
If I'm limited to 5GB on the phone, what does it matter whether it's the phone or my PC pulling the data? As phones get more sophisticated, that distinction gets blurrier anyway.
If their network can't handle the strain they should have set more sensible limits. That would put a quick stop to people watching 1mbps streaming SlingBox videos for hours on end. Not that there's anything wrong with that. They should offer a $60/month plan for people who do want to do that sort of thing.
