| I tried it, and like it. I only wish that it was available for that price on AT&T.
AT&T: Tilt (old) = $199 after rebates AT&T: Fuze (new) = $299 after rebates T-Mobile: G1 = $175 after rebates
If only the Fuze had a decent sized screen like the G1 or iPhone
Tilt: 320x240 = 2.8" screen Fuze: 640x480 = 2.8" screen G1: 320x480 = 3.2" screen iPhone: 320x480 = 3.5" screen -- Canada = Hollywood North |

| Sort of a pointless article...
It doesn't cost $143.89 to make -- it uses $143.89 worth of parts, at least according to a third party's estimates. So what? If they dig into the real costs for software, R&D, manufacturing, accessories, and distribution -- THEN we can have a good old fashioned BBR bitch fest about those greedy so-and-so's. |

Yeah - kinda sad. When I looked at the phone - its a bit like a brick, the screen looked kind of small, especially when I had an iPhone next to it. Small pixels - makes all the images look real sharp, however, since the screen is so small, you wouldn't notice much anyways. Same screen size as tilt (physically), 4x the pixels (2x each direction). |

With all the potential profit to be made on data services, and money spent on 3G networks.. a phone just being a phone days are numbered, unless you're on prepaid. |

| TMobile is the Problem
The Problem in my neck of the woods is that T mobile is not even really considered a real provider. VZ and Sprint have such a strong foothold that even though ATT has 3G it is a joke compared to EVDO, TMobile is about 5 years behind the other operators. It is great for cheap once in a blue moon cell phone users, but I have gotten used to the fanstastic coverage and the 2 mbit EVDO from Sprint.
Oddly I hear the exaxt opposite about TMobile and Sprint on the West Coast. So even though there was a demo of the G1 they could not show off the feature due to lack of service. I believe TMobile roams on ATT here. -- "He who is not afraid today to say 'no' to the repressive machinery of a criminal bureaucracy earns the right to be called a Human Being." »lp.org/ Zion is our milk |

Love them and I did play with a friend's iPhone. I found the G1 to be a lot more customizable.
Although the iPhone apps are more mature, Android is in its infancy and will grow with time. |

| Right now, all the apps are free but I think that will change.
Some of the apps are pretty good but some show the old freeware/shareware feel of not being quite done.
One of the best is ShopSavy which allows you to scan a barcode with the camera and search online for the best price but it also depends on the product. I scanned 2 things in Costco last night (1TB WD external drive and an HP system) that it couldn't find but that might be because the warehouse stores usually have their own products not normally sold in retail stores.
Battery life is not great but I attribute that to playing around with it all day with all the bells and whistles turned on. |

| reply to ptrowski I'm really happy with my G1 and it's by far the best phone I've owned. Makes my old (Windows Mobile 6) Shadow feel like a dinosaur in comparison. T-Mobile's 3G service is seems very snappy and I constantly get over 1mb download speeds on speed tests. My only real gripe is that there is no on screen keyboard for sending quick text messages, though I've heard that is in development. |

Some people want more out of their phones. If you want a basic phone, no one is forcing you to buy a G1.

| I got my G1 2 days ago
I must say it is very well designed and I am satisfied with it.
My only criticism about the android though is that the battery life gets drained way too easly, unless you turn off all radios, bluetooth, wifi and other sync features.
I can barely make it through one entire day without having to recharge it, although I have been on it non-stop since I got it though. |

I carry a tilt. I like it, end to end.
My only complaints: 400MHz processor - underpowered Not enough ram. Missing alt, ctrl, home, and end keys.
But I can modify the snot out of the thing, and that makes up for a lot. So does WiFi, 3g AND GPS; with nothing locked out by AT&T.

I noticed the same thing right away, but not surprised. Often many of the "news" stories here are just fillers to keep up the Google ratings, is my best guess.
