 Time Warner's Response?

I wonder what Time Warner's response in Raleigh will be? Will they just provide more downstream, or will they finally increase upstream speeds too?

Are you kidding? TWC is not onlt arrogant but the bully on the block. They will CRY just like they did when the City of Wilson created their own fiber network GREENLIGHT. I can't figure out why the triangle isn't completely fiber. Kudos and GOOD LUCK. I hope they bust TWC's chops!!!! GO AT&T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Install on the 20th

Install scheduled for this Saturday, the 20th, for Max 18 and U100. It's supposed to take 4-6 hours. Hopefully things go smooth.

Not Available

The U-Verse web site tells me it's not available for me, even though I have a VRAD right around the corner from my house. Thought maybe it might be because I don't have an AT&T landline, so checked a few neighbors too...not available for them either. Wonder what parts of Raleigh have U-Verse available?

Re: Time Warner's Response?

If TWC's response in Raleigh is the same as TWC NEO's response, they will arrogantly claim that people will stick with them because they're better. They will not increase internet speeds or add channels, but happily raise prices.

Which explains why people are jumping ship around here to go to Uverse or if they can't get Uverse, then they go to satellite.

2 choices equals competition? I guess in the strictest sense it is ... but Time Warner and AT&T definitely love their cozy duopoly.

The Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area is one of the most affluent/technology-savvy areas in the country and their choices are Road Runner at a laughable 7Mbps/384Kbps or, finally, U-Verse.

Wow.

Re: Not Available

That's crazy! I live just outside the Raleigh City limits in Knightdale (off New Bern Ave\64 Business) We probably won't see Uverse for a while

Stuck with AT&T, CableOne, and a really expensive WISP in my area.

Yeah. "Available" means to a few streets in Raleigh and one to two select up scale housing divisions. Outlying areas will see it in three to six years.

I'm in N Raleigh not too far from Triangle Town Center. I've had an install scheduled on the 20th since sometime late last month.

I don't know about Raleigh, but Cary had plans to build a fiber network for their city... This was back years ago when they were having issues with TWC however, and it eventually got scrapped.

Too bad we will never see anything amazing like that here... TWC and AT&T have more than enough money and power to keep new players out of the triangle so they can keep us stuck in their stone age snow globe monopoly.

Re: Time Warner's Response?

I want to see what TWC will do in response before making my decision. When I had TWC install my triple play in my current residence it cost me over $450 and took them a good 4-6 hours to do the install (new behind the wall cable runs). I don't want to go though that kind of trouble again only to find that a week after switching to U-verse, TWC offers 20/2 or something similar.

I still doubt that TW will increase speeds into the realm that I would hope to see them offer. They have always historically not only matched but exceeded offers from AT&T/Bellsouth on the download side, and usually match the upstream. I'd love to see them offer 10/1 or 20/2, or something along those lines... They seem to offer similar speeds in other area's across the country, so why not here? Do we just not deserve it or something?

Yea.. 2 choices equals competition.. better than 3 or 4 where you wind up with 2 of them going bankrupt.

Time to stop living in a utopia, wake up, and smell the roses. This desire to have so many choices in broadband only means disaster in the long run. The system does NOT support having that many providers.

And I beg to differ about Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill as being one of the most affluent/technology savvy areas in the country. Seriously, where are you getting that?

Money doesn't always equate savvy. Been there, lived there, glad to get out of there, ...can't agree with you at all.

Disaster in the long run? Right, because things are working so well right now, correct? We're much better off than we were around 1998 when Time Warner and Bellsouth had to share their lines.

When did you live there, 1902? You do realize that Duke, UNC Chapel-Hill, and N.C. State are all in that area, not to mention the Research Triangle Park (»www.rtp.org/main/) which is the East Coast home to every major tech and pharmaceutical company in the world. I suggest you look at Page 3 and then the last two pages of this: »www.rtp.org/files/info@rtp/2008_···1608.pdf

If you don't want to read all that, here's a nice listing of just the companies there: »www.rtp.org/files/Maps/2008_rtp_···1408.pdf

Embarq offers 10/896 in their territory (here) and that never seemed to bother them.

10/10 for $34.95??? Dang...maybe I need to move to Wilson. The commute to work every day would suck, though.
