They could aways lie like AT$T and claim that IPTV is better than any MSO offering due to they're all digital and won't be affected by the Feb 17 switch to digital from Analog and that all cable customers that do not switch will be without TV. |

Technology doesn't automatically make something a good business strategy.
There are many places where IP video distribution has a distinct advantage, but as a direct replacement of cable/satellite service is not one of them. The distribution costs of cable and satellite are significantly lower than IP delivery for a mass video audience. |

| I don't think you understand their business model. They deliver IP encapsulated tv channels to a local telco. The local telo puts set top boxes in their customers homes and deliver channels to then via DSL, or other telco based delivery systems.
This was ver elegant for a telco as they don't need to buy much equipment in order to get up and running. My guess is that they wanted to be the third DBS provider and they just couldn't break into the market.
Even the dwindling C-Band home market still has more customers. |
