| Ha ha cellphone coverage is really bad in vermont
I live in Vermont and Ill tell you that in general cellphone coverage sucks so I hope AT&T do a huge upgrade because Unicell has been lacking in the past few years .I wont buy a iPhone till it can be proven it works where I live because many phones just don't work when theres a few mountains in the way and only a few cell towers My home happens to be one of those spots and you have to walk around the house or outside to get a signal, even though I can see a large cell tower outside my window thats on top of a local ski resort .
Vermont's Govorner has a policy of Vermont being the first "e-state" in the US by 2010 promising universal broadband and cellphone coverage throughout the state that was passed into law, but as of today there are still many people on Dial Up in the state and have no access to broadband so they better hurry up theres only a year to go to make Vermont a so called "E-State".

| HSDPA? How 'bout voice first?
3G would be nice, but there's a line about 100 yards into the state of Vermont where my iPhone just *dies*. No EDGE, no voice, not even SMS. It's like some Stephen King novel or something where all the tech just stops working and you're cut off from the rest of the world.
I live in New York and seldom venture over the border, but it sure would be nice to be able to get a phone call when I'm over there.
Fortunately my Sprint data card manages to find *some* signal... |

  Not just Vermont
@rr.com | It would be nice if New York had better coverage. Verizon is the only carrier who has partial coverage in this part of New York.
At least Vermont seems to be trying to improve coverage. |

Well it looks like AT$T's ads are full of crap now. They now can't say service every where.
Someone will take that to their advantage and cash in rather well. False advertising. |

| Hm, do they outright say they have service EVERYWHERE? I mean, that would be an outright lie...
Their "largest global coverage area" claim is based around having global roaming (on GSM) and then having a bigger domestic network than any other GSM carrier... The key word, however, is "global", as Verizon and probably Sprint as well have larger domestic coverage areas. |

| Yes. They claim coverage everywhere. Even by hinting at it. You should listen to their damn ads on TV. Especially the one with deep frying a turkey and the house fire. "if so and so had AT$T Wireless here in the rural area he would reiceved the call that he had to thaw the turkey out before deep frying it." |

| No they don't... not explicitly, at least. Is it misleading? Maybe... but unless they say it outright, legally they aren't doing anything wrong. That's why they have something called a COVERAGE MAP on their site. You'd have to be extremely stupid, or outright naive, to buy a WIRELESS service and expect it to work EVERYWHERE. BTW, in case you yourself were actually believing ATT's ads, you should take the time to go to their site and actually check their coverage before buying: »www.wireless.att.com/coveragevie···toaction

Seriously, it doesn't take long when leaving the greater Burlington area before you are definitely in "the sticks". Then combine low population density; many mountains, hills, and valleys; and a NIMBY mentality; and it is easy to understand why there isn't great cell coverage throughout the state.
Unicel (formerly Cellular One in Vermont) is the only GSM provider in the state. Coverage in Burlington is spotty, but not to bad if you're up on the mountain. Vermont has been pretty much a VZW locale, but Sprint did finally upgrade there data to 3G this year. -- New to Forum Life? Click here and learn. |

| reply to hottboiinnc Big difference between "stating" and "IMPLYING". A lot of ads imply a lot of things. Doesn't necessarily mean false advertising. Just misleading. Besides, my phone doesn't work (or at least, has a chance of not working) in a LOT of places other than a farm in Vermont. It doesn't work in the subway, for instance. Neither does it work in the basement of my house. Doesn't mean I can take AT&T to small claims court for false advertising. If you take a long hard look at their commercials, you'll see that they even put that in fine print. If you didn't read that fine print before buying service, tough luck. And no one's forcing you to keep service. That's why it's called a 30-day return policy. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Return the damn phone and continue with life.... |

| Vermont coverage
Not sure why others are having problems with cell phone reception. I travel all around Vermont and the coverage is great with Unicel. I travel to many small towns and Unicell (now ATT) is there but Verizon is not. Verizon has great Edge coverage all through the 89 corridor. |

@cingular.com | Hold tight great things are going to happen
Now that at&t has been given the Green light great things are about to happen in Vermont and UNY. Once 3G is deployed the coverage difference will be night and day for both voice and data. This is a deep pocket company who will only deploy the best |
