Moderation and "system" messages

I have recently had a few messages from "system" to indicate some moderation action on posts I had made.

I would suggest that such message be signed by the moderator who took the action so that users could then ask for further explanation/details.

Having an unreplyiable message from "system" is not very professional because we have no idea who took the action.

DSLR neutrality and ISP specific forums

DSLR has had a reputation of being neutral with respect to ISP popularity/rankings.

However, one small canadian ISP (Teksavvy) has managed a disproportionate representation on DSLR and this is starting to look bad with regards to DSLR's neutrality. I say this factually without any allegations of foul play or wrongdoing.

There is the "Canadian Broadband" forum which should contain non-ISP-specific discussions. Yet, despite some topics having been started on "Canadian Broadband" (such as discussing an upcoming CRTC decision affecting all ISPs), they start their own topic in their forum and make it grow to a point where it appears in the "most people are now reading" list this then has a snowball effect by bringing users from any/all forums to the ISP specific forum.

The original topic in Canadian Broadband has no chance, and the ISP gets free publicity by bringing people from other ISPs to discuss an ISP-neutral topic in their own forum instead of an ISP-neutral forum.

Most of the topics in the Teksavvy forum which make it to the "most people are now reading" list are not related to Teksavvy itself.

I would suggest that moderators of ISP specific forums be a bit more proactive in directing non-ISP-specific discussions to the appropriate forums. This would help ensure no specific ISP monopolise industry-wide discussions and get a disproportionate place in rankings at the expense of other forums/ISPs.

FAQ feedback form

When someone encounters a FAQ entry, perhaps because they got there through a google link, they may have entered DSLR for the first time and do not know that they have reached a FAQ. If it applies to a trouble they are having, most times a post in the applicable forum would be a better choice. Often, someone posts a FAQ feedback entry because they don't know how to get to the appropriate forum.

Suggest a couple of changes in two areas:

1. "Feedback form" should be modified to say "FAQ feedback form".

2. Text at header of feedback form should add a reference to the primary forum associated with that FAQ. Similar to "If you are seeking help with a specific problem, post in the %forum% forum."

For an example, see this post. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r23265348-Number-to-call-for-DSL-repair-service

Give option to allow common words in search

"new are very common words. To maximise search speed they were ignored."

When looking for a specific place, automatically deleting the word New if a city is named i.e. New Fundland (or whatever) can greatly prolong the search. If possible script-wise it would be nice if a " " was put around both words to prevent the site from deleting that common word (example taken from google but anything can be added for this). Example: "New Fundland"

If there is a way/feature to do this I am not aware of, please delete)
