I know TiVo supports both but I was wondering if I will need two cards or one.

Cablevision wires MacArthur Airport for Internet access

November 24, 2009 By CARL MACGOWAN

As Thanksgiving travelers began their holiday sojourns, Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma was trying to help fliers Tuesday by going wireless.

Customers at the airport are now able to check e-mail and access the Internet while waiting for flights thanks to an Optimum Online Wi-Fi system Cablevision installed throughout the airport. Cablevision owns Newsday.

The system is available to Optimum Online customers, and non-customers can also access it with some restrictions, town officials said.

Users will be prompted by their wireless devices to log in to a MacArthur Airport Web page, Cablevision officials said at a news conference at the airport, which is owned by the Town of Islip.

Cablevision installed the system at no cost to taxpayers, Supervisor Phil Nolan said. MacArthur is the first metropolitan-area airport to go completely wireless.

Unable to load You Tube videos_SOLVED_FINALLY!

Is anybody else experiencing the same problem where when you try to watch a You Tube video nothing happens and after an extended period of time You Tube tells you an error has occured please try later??? I have disconnected all of my networking gear and gone direct to the modem with no positive effects. I have even used a brand new machine to remove the possibility of a malware or virus issue and still same problem. This is pretty frustrating when someone sends you a link to something and you can't watch it.

[OOL] OOL throttling streaming videos?

For about a week now i noticed that youtube and vimeo videos, especially HQ ones are loading very slow.
Looking at the bandwidth used i see that videos are coming in at ~100kilobytes/sec.
It doesn't look like local network capacity since:

Speed Test #82153033 by dslreports.com
Run: 2009-11-19 20:59:11 EST
Download: 11286 (Kbps)
Upload: 1868 (Kbps)
Regular webpages, downloads and even Apple and Yahoo's quicktime HD trailers are downloading perfectly fast, but flash streaming videos are PITA to watch with constant buffering.

Could OOL be throttling youtube, vimeo and other video sites?
If so, this is the most blatant Network Neutrality violation.

[OOL] 07726 slow BOOST downstream

I have had a trouble ticket and the guy came out and found nothing wrong but changed out the splitters anyway. The plant folks did something and things got great for about 2 weeks and now downstream is worst then ever. It's not a local problem and my upstream is great (almost 5 all the time). Something is wrong either in my neighborhood, Freehold or somewhere with downstream.

I checked my neighbors and the standard downstream seems to be OK, looks like it's a BOOST downstream problem.

[Optimum Voice] Questions about OV install

Hi!
I'm getting optimum voice this week. I just have some questions about the install and what to expect.

1. What type of modem will I get? Is it the SBV5220?

2. If it's that modem, do they include the backup battery? How long will the battery last in the event of a power outage? Does the battery only power the phone part, or will it provide power for the internet too?

3. I'm getting 2 lines installed. There's a phone jack right near where my current modem is, and it has both lines wired to it. Will they just be able to plug the modem into that after they disconnect the verizon lines from outside? Or do they need to do new wiring? The modem needs to go where the current one is, because that's where all of my network wiring meets up.

4. How long should an install take, assuming all the current wiring is ok?

5. Does heavy internet bandwith usage affect voice quality? Or can the modem compensate and automatically throttle for best quality?

6. Finally, I have a linksys wireless router (wrt54g v6, I believe). Will they be able to just keep this router hooked up as is?

Sorry about all of the questions, and I really appreciate everyone taking the time to help me out and answer them. It's been a while since I've had to deal with any of this stuff, so I've been a bit out of the loop on newer technology.

Thanks again!

[iO] multiple outputs on 8300HD

I have a 8300HD DVR that I am currently using.

I have the analog (coax) going to two TV's (non HD), component going to one TV (no HDMI in) and just added a HDMI run to a TV in the bedroom.

When I have all of this hooked up the HDMI and analog outputs work fine...but I get no video via the component. As soon as i unplug the HDMI I get a signal to the component again.

Is there a way to enable simultaneous output via the component and HDMI?

The TV currently hooked up does have a DVI input and will work via a HDMI -> DVI adapter...but i'm trying to avoid having to purchase a HDMI splitter.

If anyone's interested, this is the HDMI device I am using to send video approx 60' over two cat6 cables. Works absolutely great and no artifacts at 1080i (iO) and 1080P (PS3).

If I must purchase a HDMI splitter I'd ideally like to find a combo splitter/switcher. 3 in/3 out would be ideal. I don't really need a matrix switcher (any input to any output) just a select 1 - same goes out to all 3. Anyone have any recommendations?
