Win7 64bit now won't let me use "8 cpus".

So I have the corei7 920.
Intially when I installed win7 64 Pro I installed with HT flag turned on in BIOS. So it results in 4 cores and 4 Threads for the total of "8 CPU's". The windows reflected that correctly and so did CoreTemp.

I initally hit the was in Overclocking at about 4250 at 1.35V (didn't want to go higher in voltage). Then I read that if you turn off HT, the CPU will drop about 10C in temperature and it will allow for higher clocks. Ergo, I go to bios turn off HT and up the Baseclock. Now I can run at 4380 Stable and Win7 correctly reflects 4 CPU's (4 Cores no Virtual Cores (HT)).
So yesterday I go back to BIOS and decide to turn HT back on. Now the system boots (at lower MHZ 4250..had to change it back) but it shows only 4 CPU's in windows...CoreTemp reflects that and it states 2 Cores 4 Threads (so 4 CPUS two being real and two vertical).

So I go back to bios and turn the HT flag off, go back to windows still 4 CPUS now 4 Cores and 4 Threads.

So what gives? Is it windows or the hardware?

Trying to understand FSB:DRAM in CPU-Z

I could not find any reference to my particular set up in googling so I hoping I can get some information here.

I have a ASUS M2A-VM HDMI with a Phenom 9600 BE. 2gig ram DDr2-800.
Now CPU-Z says
11.5 X
Bus Speed 200
HT link 1000
NB Freq 1800
I do have PC2-6400 RAM but I have it running at DDr2 400
to get a FSB:DRAM of 1:1
If try to run ram at 800 I get a ratio of 1:2

In that latter could I end up with a bottlenecks in the CPU?
What are symptoms of bottleneck in the CPU?

I trying to understand how this works. Do you always want to see a 1:1 ratio?
Thanks.

Is 80C too high for 920 D0?

I have 920 D0 OC to 4.2 Ghz at 1.35 Volts running water.
With Prime95 blend I get 78C with 27C ambient
and with
Prime95 small FFT (all fits in cache so just CPU tested) I get about 81C with ~27C ambient.

All after 30 min of Primeing.

Are those temps too high for that chip and setup or is it standard?

CPU-z (so which is it?)

I always thought CPUz was a good program, no?

I have E8400 with Asus P5Q Pro. I think the default is 9x333 so I set the FSB to 400 in the BIOS (nowhere to change the multi). RAM went to 801 from 800MHz.

Core voltage doesn't seem right either. I didn't change that, nor should it have changed from 1.1 something.

Ideas?

[Cooling] Aftermarket Cooler for HD 4890?

Hello Gents,

I'm looking to purchase an aftermarket cooler for my HD4890. I believe I have the standard version which runs at 850MHz core and 975MHz memory and I don't plan on overclocking; a quiet cooler is much more important to me than one that allows insane overclocking. With the stock cooler fan at 50%, the GPU sits at 48C idle and hits 73C under 60%-70% load.

I think the Scythe SCVMS-1000 will fit the bill. Should that provide sufficient cooling with a low noise level?
