[HDTV] TV turns itself on (3 AM or4 AM) during system prog. upda

One of our HDTV's turns on (by itself) during the early AM. Turns on during the network system update time. This used to happen at EXACTLY 4 AM (occasionally). Now it happens (occasionally) at EXACTLY 3 AM (since Comcast took over). Only happens to this HDTV (1 of 4 in house).

It would appear that when the "update" happens it either emits a "TV power on signal" [just as if you had pushed the button on the TV or the remote] OR the end of the programming update causes a surge that does it.

Paul

PS: Have UPS System (with monitoring PC program) but that doesn't indicate any power fluctuation event on the grid!!

[HSI] DHCP Problems???

OK - sometime over the weekend, my LAN machines began to loose the ability to see each other. Upon investigation I found that as their DHCP leases expired, they were picking up addresses outside of the range that my LAN router was supposed to supply. The router appears to be working fine though. Although I am not sure what is going on, I just wonder if Comcast/Patriot have turned something on over the weekend that is confounding things???

Thanks!

What happens next february? (switch to digital)

I've read loads of "help" messages concerning the transition to digital but I can't seem to get a grasp of what is going to happen to people who subscribe to CATV?

Specifically, Patriot (or now comcast).

I'm a basic subscriber with no digital cable boxes. I get channels 2-80 and through the use of a channel modulator broadcast my own devices on channels 91, 93 & 101. I've got a Tivo box, a VCR and a DVD player on those channels and with distributed IR it means that we have those 3 things on all the TV's in our house with IR control. It's been a great thing over the years because we use the Tivo (well actually all 3) to play shows for the kids, and record a few shows for mom & dad.

That being said, I want to know what Patmedia (or comcast) is going to do with my "analog" channels after Feb next year? I've heard everything from they'll stay the same, to they'll transition most of the channels over to digital thus requiring a box at each TV.

We've got FIOS at our office and their analog channel line-up is worthless, basic broadcast networks, and not much else.

If I'm faced with going to cable boxes I'm going to have to figure out a why to continue to get my 3 devices on all TV's which means I might have to start working on a distributed video system.

would be interested in hearing what they are going to do next year.

Thanks,

Roveer

[HDTV] HD DVR Picture

In the last week I have noticed that when watching the Yankee games on 186 (HD) the picture seems to appear as if it is skipping frames resulting in a jerky motion. I've also noticed that the box seems to be very slow changing channels. Has anyone else experienced this?
