What has changed?

Same here. I cannot be over quota as I only use usenet for text newsgroups.

Well, graysonf, we have been down this road before.
I actually consider newsgroups fairly central to the offerings of a good ISP. I rely on text newsgroups for my involvement with a host of communities and this is a disruption.
I hope you are wrong, but I fear you may not be -- See where my mind is: »www.porcel.net |

graysonfPremium,MVM join:1999-07-16 Fort Lauderdale, FL | Well, you can get unlimited, pretty decent text only newsgroups for free. Have you looked into that yet? |

I hadn't had chance to stop by dslreports.com.
I appreciate the tip. Text is all I need, so this is perfect.

I just remembered that I tried this about a year ago and they never got back to me. Hopefully they will this time around. -- See where my mind is: »www.porcel.net |

graysonfPremium,MVM join:1999-07-16 Fort Lauderdale, FL | reply to ElViejoPoeta Still no reply back from support or the IT manager at DSLi. My guess is they are over quota and it might start working again on Sept 2. |

Unfortunately the total quota allocated to us has been exceeded. We are currently working on tracking down the IP's responsible for downloading more than their share to take appropriate action. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.

graysonfPremium,MVM join:1999-07-16 Fort Lauderdale, FL | You're welcome. I figured that what happened was possible.
The problem with the quota system is that a user can go over quota while still connected, way over quota, probably even continue downloading without limit. He won't find out he is over quota until he disconnects and attempts to reconnect. I suppose it's even possible for a single user to exhaust the entire system quota this way.
Oh well. If all you need is text news, get on with news.individual.net
There probably won't be any more DSLi newsgroups until Sept. 2 |

eliasPremium,VIP join:2000-07-24 Miami, FL | Actually, the way it works is that if a user goes over quota, they are able to finish the download. Once the download completes, they are out.

graysonfPremium,MVM join:1999-07-16 Fort Lauderdale, FL | You'll have to clarify what you mean by "the download." I know for a fact that it can't mean that going over quota by one article cuts you off, because I know I've done that. I'm pretty sure you mean that if you queue a bunch of stuff up to download, no matter how much, and that takes you over quota, it will all come down, then you won't be able to take more. So, conceivably, one user could dry up the whole thing. |
