 | nit picking The report is packed to the brim with complaints, asking questions such as if internal wiring breaks once every 16 years, why do users pay a monthly "inside wire maintenance" fee? If call waiting and caller ID cost a penny to provide, why are users still paying on average more than $7 a month?
If I remember correctly from when I first turned on my phone, that inside wire maintenance fee is an optional charge which the customer can choose to have on the bill or choose to not pay. It's basically an insurance premium so that you don't have to pay for a repair visit if a line goes bad inside your house.
As far as the call waiting thing, since when does price have anything to do with cost? You charge what the market is willing to pay. It costs about a nickel to provide a 32 ounce Pepsi, but you pay $1.50 for it at Hooters. Has this Kuchnick guy ever taken a business class or is he just a malcontent? |

How 'bout this.... when you're at Hooters about to actually drink your Pepsi, you want a straw. The waitress says 'straws are .30 extra., then there is the .40 fee for wripping off the paper cover, .50 fee for placing the straw on your table, .80 fee for putting it in the trash after you're done... and our .65 "recycling fee". Your Pepsi now costs you: $4.15 |

 | reply to footballdude Granted the fact Bell charges a lot for services that cost them next to nothing to provide isn't exactly an FCC-worthy complaint, but there are some legitimate grievances here as well. Especially in regards to the fees tagged on your phone bill that you can't just say "I don't want that anymore". Is there any phone company out there that tells you the actual cost of the phone service when you order it? |

Frankly those services that they do markup are not necessary. You do not need voicemail, you buy a answering machine. You do not need caller ID or call waiting.
You also missed where they went after taking money for NY State taxes, that is something Teletruth should take up with NY state... not Verizon. -- some people believe in astrology others believe in technology some people believe in all those -ologies but i believe in swordfish |

If customers were willing to pay those fees, I guarantee someone would be charging them. Like I said, you charge what the market will bear. |

It's an old dodge, you have a couple of possibly legitimate issues, you bundle them with a whole bunch of filler material written to sound worse than it is, and you give the impression that the target can't do anything right. This is why no one takes it seriously when Democrats complain about Republicans (and vice-versa). When most of what you say is BS, what little may be true gets lost in the shuffle. |
