 | XM radio baby! What made me stop buying CDs was not availability of Napster and etc. Two things - on-line radio from Europe (since no one here sells reasonably priced imports vinyl or CDs) and XM radio. I haven't bought a CD for more than 3 years and I don't plan to for a long time. In the car and at home I listen to XM, which is like an addiction to me, because you can listen 24 hours and they will repeat same song maybe twice, so everything is always fresh. On-line radio stations are for my euro fix.
Once songs drop to 50cents per download with unlimited CD burns and they actually will have what I like (which RIAA calls imports, or in their terminology = no money for them), I will come back. Until then, I will support XM and get me EU music for free (which I can record without breaking fair use).
And re. Apple. Sell your overpriced $hit to someone else, Apple. I hate those sales people at Apple stores, they think they are something special. Hate to break it to you, you are no Bentley dealer, you are selling computers - cheap $hit in "designer" shell.
If I want Linux, I will get the real deal. |

 | XM is an addiction, see my posts at xm411.com, my avatar, the sweatshirt I'm wearing now, etc.
But I still buy from iTunes and I don't agree with your bashing Apple, but you have a right to an opinion, so I'll leave that be. I like Apple, you don't...no need to start a flame war |

EDIT: I'm an idiot. It's out already and $200 at Best Buy. |

If there were some sort of way for me to purchase, online, the music I like, which is 99% euro-music (house, progressive trance, etc) then I'd be all over it. I can't find any places around where I live that sell it, so I resort to downloading (even finding that type of music is tough).

If someone offered high quality downloads for 50 cents each with no drm, I would jump at it. -- www.shinraonline.com |

 | Have you both looked over the selections at:
»www.emusic.com (pay monthly fee for batch downloads start $10=40 downloads; amounts to 20-25c per track) »audiolunchbox.com (ogg and mp3) »www.magnatune.com (you choose price willing to pay between 5-18$ per album)
None of these have drm. |

Besides... the cost of the XM unit you refer to is 200 bucks... and that's at least 20 CD's or 200 individual songs from Apple that you can OWN!
And then there is the subscription fee... which if you don't continue to pay each month your equipment becomes useless junk... and then what do you own... NOTHING! You've paid a subscription fee and an equipment fee to get... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.... unless you keep paying the fee.
I'd rather get music from the iTMS... you don't have to have an iPod to enjoy using it... and the software is free... not to mention the fact that I can have the music on upto FIVE devices legally.... and more illegally of course... lol.... Try that with your XM.
You're entitled to your opinion of course.... -- Holy Cable Modem Batman! |

 | In general, I agree with you, but one thing I want to clarify. With XM, you can call up the stations, e-mail them, or whatever and they are VERY responsive as to what you want to hear. It's definitely not like FM, which is why so many people get XM.
Though you're right, the cost initially is high and it is subscription based. You don't get your own "personal station" like you would with iTunes so you can't hear everything you want when you want.
But that's why I like both. If I don't want to listen to XM at the moment because I want to hear song X and don't feel like requesting it, I go to iTunes. |

I think XM is a remarkable advance... but I'm surprised it's done as well as it has... -- Holy Cable Modem Batman! |

Those are the places i get my digital fix from. Even trying to find a MOS cd anywhere near Boston is tough and when you find em they run over $70 for 2 cd's. And if you check the url for MOS you can't get cd's in the US. Weak real weak. -- This package does not contain a winner... |
