I currently have Bellsouth Fast Access ADSL but, for the past few weeks their routing has been screwed up. I play a couple online games, mainly RTCW, and my routing used to be from my home in Columbia then to Nashville then straight to Atlanta to get on the internet. Now my routing has me shifted out to New Orleans first instead of Atlanta. If I want to play on a game server in Atlanta it now goes from Nashville then to New Orleans then to Dallas then back to Atlanta and my ping is 45 ms or more and it used to be 20 ms. I think Earthlink DSL is having similar routing issues and I was wondering if Butler is able to get around these routing problems and still has good ping to most server. If someone using Butler Networks ADSL would ping -n 10 64.81.127.135 which is a Speakeasy game server in Dallas I'd like to see the results and I'd also like to see a ping -n 10 216.27.175.135 which is a Speakeasy game server in Atlanta. A tracert of each wouldn't be bad either. The results would be much appreciated. I play RTCW competitively and with BSFA it's really sucking lately and I have not gotten one explanation about the crazy routing from BS and I've asked their tech support people from E-mail to instant chats to their newsgroup and the BS forum on dslreports and no one has any reasons but, it appears that most people in middle TN have all been routed through New Orleans. If you want to read the current thread about this in the BS forum the link is »My ping times doubled overnight?????????????? At this point I'm willing to consider all my options and swap ISP's to who ever offers the lowest ping.
What you describe is exactly why I left Bellsucks over a year ago. I went to Butler.net. They are a VERY GOOD isp. Next to zero down time. Routing is decent. I'm a gamer as well. My pings to east coast servers was around 40ms average.
I recently left Butler and moved back to cable. Not because of the service Butler provides. My wife just got a better connection using her vpn from home to office. Her paycheck overrides my gaming.
Like I said, you won't get a better isp in middle TN than Butler.
I just called and signed up yesterday around 5 pm and it's working this morning! Their ping is great too. A little better even than when bellsouth had their routing right.. I'm about to write a review for Butler here shortly.
