[Info] New Atheros driver 3.1.1.48New Atheros driver (3.1.1.48) from Fujitsu Japan, dated 4/1/2004. Works better than 2.4.x versions for me. More stable, more features, revised client utility. There is a Super G option, but Super G with Turbo doesn't seem to work, but Super G without Turbo does, at least on my DWL-2000AP. I suspect they have modified the way Turbo works, as they have stated in their press releases, to play nice with other wireless devices. It's supposes to be "smart" and turn on and off as it detects other wireless signals. I'm assuming that if they upgraded the clients to this new method, the access point would need a similar upgrade, so that may be why turbo doesn't work as D-Link hasn't upgraded their access points to work like this. Or that Super G is just plain broken in this driver, heh. Should work with any Atheros 5001/5002 chipset, such as DWL-G520 rev A DWL-G650 rev B Download it at: » www.fmworld.net/download ··· 0034.exe |

I installed the v3.1.1.48 today, too, except it seems some joker had fun with the .inf file... my WG311v1 is listed as an AR5001X+ Armageddon, driver provided by Apocalypse Heavy Industries.
Anyway, it runs nice and stable and fast. I think I'll keep the messed up version for kicks. |

That is strange, my card shows up as a normal Atheros AR5001X+ card. I looked in the inf file, there is nothing in there about Armageddon or Apocalypse Heavy Industries, so I'm not sure how those strings ended up on your system. |

I didn't use the files you so graciously provided. My download consisted of the drivers only--no connection utility. Someone merely had fun with the .inf file, and there was no mention of Fujitsu in it like yours. |

Hi,
Should they run on DWL-G650 Revision C2?

Both the client and the driver work fine (I couldn't get the previous Atheros driver to work with WPA) with my DWL-G650 B2 with a few exceptions. It still shows the wireless mode as 2.4GHz 54 Mbps and when I have Super G Dynamic Turbo running on my DI-624. It will not connect if I have the DI-624 set to Super G with static turbo.
No matter, the real world speeds of the turbo modes don't even come close to 108 Mbps, so I usually run with all the Super G stuff off.

I tried the New Atheros driver 3.1.1.48 and the Atheros Universal driver V2.4.2.23 on my DWL-G650 v.C2, (Wifi certified packaging, made in Taiwan). I was unable to use either driver or utility. I forced the loading of both drivers while using the Dlink utility and the Atheros utility but could not get a connection to the DI-624 hwv.C2 (Wifi certified packaging, made in China) fw 2.42. It took about four hours to go through all this and then get my system stable again.
I dont know what happened but during this whole process two nagging problems appear to have gone away. I dont seem to be getting DI-624 reboots when I use my Panasonic KX-TG93B 2.4 GHz spread spectrum phone and my DWL-650 automatically connects when my laptop comes out of sleep mode. I am using Super G static mode. But I have yet to try implementing any security.
Some observations, the Atheros Universal driver V2.4.2.23 installed what my system thought was a Linksys product and the Atheros driver 3.1.1.48 installed what my system thought was a Fujisu product. Also the Atheros driver 3.1.1.48 install and utility was all in Japanese.
I hope this info helps someone. If things remain stable then after two months of trying everything seems to be working the way it should. I can reach the other end of my house without dropping a connection and my wireless pc seems just as fast as my wired pcs. If you want to know more about my environment do a search on my id SOC7 and youll be able to see two other posts where I documented my environment.
Thanks for all the help from this forum. |

I meant to ask the question, is everyone who is using the Atheros client seeing the Wireless Mode as 2.4GHz 54Mbps, even when it seems to be running in Super G Turbo mode, or am I the only one? |

The atheros utility and driver are for laptops with the AR5001X+ built in network card, but because it's based on a reference atheros card, it's pretty much universal. |

Some comments on the previous posts....
DWL-G650 rev C won't work, that is a 5004 chipset I believe. The driver only works with 5001/5002 chipsets.
My install was all in English...to get the English version instead of the Japanese one, be sure to run the setup.exe in the 'ateros_1.41' folder not the 'setup_drv.exe' in the top level folder.
Myself and others here couldn't get Super G working, I guess that confirms it. Still don't know if they just changed the way Super G works (the new "smart" mode) or if it's just a bug. |
|
| |
HMM - I have a DWL-G650 Rev C working just fine with the Atheros 3.1.1.48 driver and associated utility.
I also used the 2.x Atheros driver earlier and had no problem with that, either.
Super G static turbo works just fine for me (I leave it off usually, since I have some 802.11b devices on the network, but occasionally turn it on for large file transfers to my home server). |

zbrett -- Windows XP is reporting the connection as being 108Mbps.. but the Atheros Utility reports 54Mbps.. So you're not alone, there! |

The Atheros utility/driver works so much better on my Thinkpad than the D-Link (with the exception of reporting the connection as 54 Mbps rather 108 when in turbo mode). I wonder why D-Link goes to the trouble of producing their "own" client/driver when this superior package (at least for me) is available? Perhaps they don't want to pay Atheros more money? |

Considering I couldn't even get past the startup screen using the D-Link drivers (2.42, 2.46, & 2.48), I am extremely happy with this version Atheros driver. The previous versions mentioned in this forum worked intermittently, but this version has me talking pretty reliably with my DWL-2100AP. This driver also seems to work well with Windows XP auto wireless configuration enabled. I have set up WPA on both the AP and the DWL-G650 and have set the AP to Super G with Dynamic Turbo, 802.11g mode only.
I will be watching this setup over the next few days to see how stable it really is. |
|
| oldhack |
Well that didn't take long. Trying to transfer files at Super G Dynamic Turbo mode causes blue screens for me. I dropped the performance settings down by disabling Super G mode all together. My setup seems to be stable only at the 54 Mb/s mode but at least I can use my dwl-g650, dwl-2100ap, and di-624. Before this driver came along, I couldn't even get my notebook to boot up with the d-link drivers and g650 inserted. |

Just for clarification, does Super G Static Turbo work with this version(3.1.1.48)? I am currently in Static Turbo with the 2.4.2.23. Should I upgrade? |

It worked for me with 2.4.2.23, but does not with 3.1.1.48. Super G without Turbo works, but any Turbo modes do not. With Static Turbo, I can't connect at all. With Dynamic Turbo I can connect, but not in Turbo mode. I'm happy with the Super G without Turbo mode speeds though, it's still significantly faster than normal 802.11g. |

I just installed 3.1.1.48 on my Toshiba M2 notebook with an AR5001X+ A/G card installed and it now shows options in the ACU for "Super A/G" as theACU puts it. I had tried previous versions of the ACU with no luck so cheers for posting this one!!
The fact that a 54G card can be upgraded to 108G with just a driver update leaves a question begging to be answered...
Why do manufacturers still sell 54g cards as well as 108 g cards.... with the 108g cards at a huge premium??? (25%+ more) Obviously all they have had to do is install a newer version of the drivers.... there must be some grumpy customers out there that have just spent a fortune on 108g gear just to find that 54g + drivers would have done the trick. |

Just curious but how do you toggle between turbo and non-turbo SuperG modes? |
|
| |
The options for changing modes are on the router or access point. Click the "ADVANCED" tab and then look for "PERFORMANCE". You can't toggle anything for operating speed on the wireless network card that this driver is for. |

Hmmm, the wireless card I have came out of the DI-774 but my router is a Netgear FWAG114 and it can never see anything above 54Mbps. |

I'm using this driver for quite a while. It's nice, but the only thing I miss is ability to automate connecting, so when one AP goes offline, it will switch to another one from the list or access closest unsecured network. |

Hey,
I've got a D-Link DWL-G650 Rev B2. My notebook has been freezing constantly and blue screening to the error with ar5211.sys. Of course this is the network card driver. Now, I am unable to fix this. Anyone have any suggestions? |

I have a DWL-G650 Rev B3 card in my notebook with Windows 2000, the new Atheros driver 3.1.1.4 works great for me. My idea is, you did something wrong during installation of the new driver. Try the following procedure: - Remove the card - Remove Atheros SW (Uninstall Software) - Reboot - Use Device Manager to remove Atheros driver, if you still see it - Delete ar5211.sys (or ar52119.sys for XP) from C:\winnt.... - Use REGEDIT.EXE to carefully remove references to ATHEROS from registry, if possible - Find the *.inf files referring to ar5211.sys in WINNT\INF, probably called OEMx.inf and delete the file. - Reboot - install card - Install D-LINK driver (only) again. Prefereably, use driver file version 2.48 (Driver 2.1.3.1 from DLINK.UK) Thats the version I used - Unpack Atheros driver files from .exe (Simply run the exe). Will expand files into \mr31148 - Force an update of the D-Link driver, to be replaced by the Atheros files. That means, use Device Manager- Properties-Driver to point to D-Link network card, driver, and then do an update of the driver, using "Have Disk". Point to \mr31148\WINXP. Windows will complain, that the new driver is not suitable, but use it anyway. - Configure Networkadrs. etc. - Reboot - Run SETUP for Atheros from \Ateros_1.41 to install utility only. - Reboot Configure your card for WEP etc.
Just being curious, let me know how it works. |

Atheros 3.1.1.48 on Sharp PC-MC22 works well! Thanks for the driver update. My Sharp PC-MC22 laptop came pre-installed with an Atheros AR5001X+ wi-fi card. Recently, I ran into problems with intermittent blue-screening after installing some firewall software and felt re-installing my nic drivers would help. I came across your download link in my driver search and am glad I did. After installing the complete 3.1.1.48 driver/utilities package, I have even better nic performance than before (thanks for the heads-up on finding the "English" install). For those using WEP, a configuration adjustment might be needed - that's where the diagnostics routine in the utilities helped pinpoint the issue for me quickly. |

Re: [Info] New Atheros driver 3.1.1.48Works great on my AG650 as well. Now I connect to the Netgear HE102 802.11a AP instead.. no more prob since I don't use the DI-624 Wireless signal anymore! (Duh.. why is it a wireless router then?) |

Same here, got it running for my Netgear WAG511 in g-mode w/ WEP connecting to a Netgear WG602v2. Works like a charm and is far from being the same cpu-resource hog as the current 2.0 Netgear driver (which sucks immensely).
Keep it up! |
