Too late!

Haha. Too little, too late. I went with OOL as soon as it was available a year and a half ago. I just checked the VZ loop qualifying page and it FINALLY says it's available. :p

Read it carefully:

"East coast customers who sign up for Verizon 1.5Mbps/384kbps, 1.5Mbps/128kbps and 384kbps/384kbps packages should now be qualified out to 18,000 feet from the CO."

This does not mean that the upload speed will be increased to 384. It means the distance to qualify for these three tiers will be pushed out to 18K feet.

1.5Mbps/384kbps is a business tier, and will now be available out to 18K feet.

1.5Mbps/128kbps is a residential tier, and will now be available out to 18K feet.

This is great news for 768/128 users but I am afraid the 1.5Mbps users will most likely not see any speed increases.

There are rumors that that the 1.5/384 tariff that was filed with the FCC is complete now. That was filed to change the pricing of 768/128 1.5/128 and 1.5/384 to the same for all three.

More on this can be found in this thread: »Verizon Upload and Loop Length Changes ! !

Thanks for answering the question I asked above.

If the residential tier remains 1.5/128, they're not playing with a full deck. A *little* more upstream and lots of us would drop *faster* cable.

In 2004 when most of the other ILECs have increased their upload (and often their download) speeds, this is shameful and they'll find many of their power users grudgingly going to cable or other technologies simply because /128kbps upstream is an unrealistic number in 2004 when a high res digital picture will take a good 10 minutes to transfer at that speed.

Glad I dumped Verizon,
David
