Lurch77Premium join:2001-11-22 Oconto, WI kudos:4 | Unions suck I am not a supporter of unions. I have seen unions strike, or at least raise concern over matters that should not be worth bothering about. It ends up costing jobs and money for both sides. Much of the time is hurts the people they are supposed to supporting. I also know many work places, where if you decided not to join the union, you are black listed, and a target for stupid stuff such as tires being slashed, ect. |

| Unions are stupid. They are out to make money for the use of the union members up top. There isn't any kind of a need for them as with back in the industrial revolution.
I'd be willing to bet that non-union environments for the same area of work have better job experiences and most likely get better pay/benefits.
One of my first jobs back in the day was a supermarket grunt. I got to move baskets around, stock things, etc. They had a union for that! And one of the other guys always told me he got harassed all the time because he didn't want to be in the union. WTF is that? You already make close to minimum wage, why the hell would you pay a fee to protect your job when you can go a block down the street and do the same thing? -- Vote anything but... |

Pay...average wage of a union grocery checker.. $13.00
Average of a non-union worker..$8.00
Pay and benefits... I am not in a union and not a real fan of unions, but there is an issue that unions are fighting for tooth and nail that I have to stand behind. That is keeping their jobs in the US. One of our local grocery stores just averted a strike by agreeing to not send some jobs offshore. Earthlink sent over 1000 jobs offshore and many others. You can bet that any one of the folks that lost their job would have been happier in a union than looking for work. And is the outsourcing giving the folks in the foreign country "better pay/benefits"? I think not.
Unions are a pain, but there is always seems to be an issue for them to fight against the multi-millionaire owners over. If they stuck with valid issues rather than nitpicking for .10 an hour, they would stay relevant. |
