Re: WG121 causes Win XP to freeze This WG121 adapter is a piece of garbage. Ever since I bought it it has either froze my machine or is not recognized by my machine. I wish I could sue Netgear for all the wasted time trying to keep it working. Now it has completely stopped working.
The Netgear Wg121 is the most worthless junk I have ever bought. I will never buy a Netgear product again. |

KarlB @02-2014-73746f42.cus | reply to spierian Quite outrageous that Netgear refuse to take responsibility for this. They can't even admit that there's a problem and yet new posters with the same problems are still finding this thread. If there were any decency within the company they should have done all they could to fix the problem, and failing that, at least offered all us cheated customers an apology.
I will never buy another Netgear product, that's for sure. |

Did you try updating to the latest driver for the adapter available here:
»kbserver.netgear.com/support_det···ldID=603
Also check for any programs that may be eating up too much memory from task manager

Is there anything that says its a netgear product that is crashing your pc?
Sounds like you may have a heat issue?
are there any loud fan noises coming from your pc?
does your computer still crash if you take out the wireless adapter? |
|
 | yes , mine only stops freezing when i uninstall the drivers for the netgear.... |
|
 | Guys, give this driver a try.
It's the latest Linksys driver for the same Intersil Prism GT chipset as found in the WG121. It may fix the problem. I've also found the very latest Intersil Prism drivers but I'm not sure whether these will work with the GT variant, let alone in a USB implementation. If you're desperate give them a go:

 | reply to spierian I have been having the same problem with the computer freezing. I have an Athlon 2800+ with windows xp. I have tried the d link 120 and linksys usbg54 as well as one by buffalo. all have led to freezing within minutes. I was wondering if anyone knows if a wireless ethernet bridge might avoid whatever is causing the problems? Jonathan |

 | reply to spierian Ok, I have managed to hack the version 3.00.12.0 Linksys drivers so that they work with my Netgear WG121 device, and it has solved all my problems! Before my wireless connection would drop afer a few seconds of any intensive network activity (i.e. copying a large file) but I have just transfered 500MB worth of data without a problem!
The process is incredibly simple: 1. Download & extract the linksys drivers above, then browse to the Drivers\WUSB54Gv2 folder. 2. Rename WUSB54GV2.cat to netwg121.cat, then rename WUSBGXP.sys to wg121nd5.sys 3. Copy these 2 files into the \ndis5 subfolder of the Netgear 2.0 driver package, overwriting the existing files, there are also copys of these files in the root folder, overwrite these too if you like. 4. Open netwg121.ini, and change the line DriverVer = 11/13/2003, 1.0.5.1000 so it reads DriverVer = 03/30/2004, 3.00.12.0 This is purely cosmetic, but usefull to double check the new drivers have installed correctly 5. If you wish, install the Netgear client utility by running setup.exe as normal, entirely up to you either way. 6. Open the device manager and if necessary manually update to the 3.00.12.0 driver version by pointing the driver wizard to the \NDIS5 folder.
I have used both the built in XP SP2 client and the Netgear client, both work flawlessly.
Let me know if you have any problems, email is the best way to contact me |

 | Re: WG121 causes Win XP to freeze - My Solution Hi, I have also some PB of freeze with my Atheros card (NG WG311v1 --> Minipci) when the card seems to scan the WLAN using the driver 3.0.0.111 from Atheros/WildPackets. Erratic mouxse behavior... The solution I just found is to change the ScanType from 2 to 1 in the registry in the following key : HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36xx}\0005\ DriverDesc = Atheros Wireless Network Adapter Do you know what Scantype mean ? Active Vs Passive Scan ? 1 for ? / 2 for ? / other ? Can this give me other pb ? Thanks |
