If you hate "M$" so much, then why use their shitty software? All I hear from people on here is "Blah blah Windows sucks blah blah" and yet, you're all just stealing it!

Why pay for an overpriced software that is overpriced because of "piracy" which actualy HELPS them |

 | reply to Jeremy341 I don't hate M$, I just think I need the money more than they do for things that I can obtain easily for free! Sorry if this offends anyone but that is the way it is for me. I was also eager to try XP before it was released to the public, so went looking for a copy... |

What a crock of shit! If you can't afford Windows, you don't deserve to use Windows. Go use an OS that you can afford, don't steal one that you can't. |
|
 | Let me see:
Windows XP Pro: $140-$200 Office XP Pro Full w/Frontpage: $437-600
or
1 year of broadband access: $500-$700
Which one should I pick? |
|
 | How about:
1 year of broadband access: $500-$700 Downloading ISO of Linux: $0.00 Downloading OpenOffice: $0.00
"I can't afford it" is not justification for stealing. The fact that there are free alternatives available to everything you'd be stealing just make it even worse. |

I bought a full retail install of Windows XP Pro(CD and Yellow Sticker only) on ebay for $127.50 delivered or $122.50 + $5.00 for postage. Is It legitimate? Yes, It installs sp1 and has been activated by Me too. The Normal price at places like Best Buy for Windows XP Pro is like $400.00 or so and this is all by itself, ebay is the place to get XP Home for too, As I've seen It for sale for about $85.00 or so, So ebay is It, Places like Best Buy have priced themselves out of the picture when It comes to this OS. -- Charter Pipeline rules in Hesperia, CA, Verizon (ex-GTE) sucks... |

Why don't you pick XP Home for 99.00 or an OEM version for less then that. -- "Remember when hacking a loogy it comes not so much from the lungs but from the soul." |

Agreed. But why would anyone pay money to use a product that's worse than what's available for free? -- Powered by Optimum Online First rule of fiber optics: you do not talk about fiber optics |

I am mixed on this issue.
I have legit copies of XP pro on 2 computers, and pirated copies on 2 computers.
The pirated copies are both old computers that don't get used as much, and frankly it isn't worth spending all the money on computers that are rarely used. -- Bush 2004 My site |

No It's not an OEM, An OEM disc doesn't require Activation by Microsoft and this one does not have OEM on the System Properties General Tab. And Yes I do mean $400, That's what some Best Buy salesman quoted Me over the phone. -- Charter Pipeline rules in Hesperia, CA, Verizon (ex-GTE) sucks... |

How bout this reason: o = thiis is your ass out of jail O = this is your ass in jail for stealing software

My excuse: I own a legitimate copy of Windows XP Professional. But I also have two computers and this lame activation process prevents me from having this software on my other computer. With many software being release coded to be optimized for XP staying with 98 was becoming an issue. Sure, I could have gone out and purchased another license but, damnit, I already paid enough for the first copy.
In my opinion XP should have came with at a license for at least two computers for the same owner in the first place; at least for users like myself. |

Yep. And MS goes after folks sometimes. The criminal act is the folks fraudulently selling known duplicates. They may or may not use the pirated copies, but by selling them to folks with that false pretense, booyah, go to hell.
And those bastards that do so are the real criminals that MS, BSA and law enforcement try to go after the most. -- Vote anything but... |

 | reply to Omega agreed. thank goodness for piracy and shareware. sure kids and poor people won't buy that stuff, but everyone else does. I think it's still wise to discourage and cast shame on those who pirate to let them know that it's not OK to use for free forever. I'd never want it to be ok to not pay. Aren't there many execs today that used to pirate software that helped make them who they are today. I must say I never would have purchased most of the software I own today if I didn't get a full feel for it. A little piracy helped many people I know discover that Symantec products are crap and that there are much better alternatives, like ace utilities. Being able to pirate ace just made them a few $100s that they otherwise never would have seen. I'm curious what percentage of 'pirates' do this. How many people over 35 that make over $60,000 pirate? I'd hardly think the sky is falling for software companies. If anything it's good for a diverse market.
