xDSL can do OC1 (54Mb) over copper up to 1000'.
You put the DSAM in the neighborhood wiring box (with fiber back to the CO) and then OC1 to the homes.
I am only 700' from our wiring box, and SBC replaced the 50 year old copper 2 years ago, so I can dream.... |

Is this clean EMI-wise? I remain highly sceptical. |

 | reply to CheeseWare Not the type of cable you have in the walls at home. But - the telephone companies can get around it with new wiring up to the premise,.. most likely heavily shielded copper. |

 | Does not sound practical. If you are going to rewire, you may as well rewire to fiber or just go next gen wireless LAN. |
