 | Best driver yet for DWL-G650+ and DWL-G520+ I found out that USR products using TI chipset and then i must test them. They work much better than D-LINKS driver, no disconnects for over 24 hour. I have tested them with both 650+ and 520+. Download link below, you must uninstall D-LINKS software and remowe device. Install and restart the computer and it find's new hardware. Then you have to specify that don't search for drivers, uncheck show compatible hardware. You should see U.S Robotics also, if then choose that and there is only one device to choose. Good luck.

P.S. US Robotics is making an announce for 125 Mbps for TI chipset.

 | No way man!!!
It freaking works! BTest, you are our Saviour! I installed the drivers without any problems... I didn't get disconnected yet and i've been testing it for about an hour - so far so good!!
Only bad thing is that network stumbler doesn't recognise driver's signal levels; and driver still doesn't support WPA authentication. But as long as i don't get disconnected, drivers are fine.
Thanks a million, BTest! |

 | reply to BTest if the above works, I wonder if the USR drivers work on the DWL-520+ and DWL-650+ to upgrade them from 22Mbps to 54Mbps, which USR cards are apparently able to do?!!!! |
|
 | it really going well with this driver!
BBReporter: dwl-520+ has a acx100 chipset, right? You should try this one: »www.usr.com/support/2210/2210-fi···0_4x.exe
Let me know if it works! |
|
 | reply to BTest i not sure if this is real or not . I removed the G520+ driver from my computer and also uninstall the G520+ hardware from the control panel ==> system.
After resetting the computer, i chose the USR hardware setting and i'm now running at 100 mpbs . YES ..IT is 100mpbs.
I will try to use this driver for a few days and see how thing goes . |
|
 | You are right, the 100mbps setting is not disabled, which means it is able to run at 100mbps.
Unfortunately I don't have a g router here to test transfer speed. |
|
 | reply to chipxsd I am sure what chipset they have, how do I find out?
I thought they have the TI "Plus" chipset?
for both DWL-520+ and DWL-650+ |

|
|
 | reply to BTest D-Links G+ products is using chip from Texas Instruments and G products are from Atheros. They are not compatible, so you must use drivers designed for each chip. Max bitrate with G+ are today 88Mbps and G are 108Mbps. In test between them the difference is not big. With G+, 22-26 MBs, G 24-28 MBs (Tested with DI-624 and DI-624+) |

|
 | ...as you see i get higher throughput than i specified and that is because my laptop is closer to the router in this test. |
|
 | reply to BTest I cannot install the USR driver on my W2k system. I find the USR11G.INF file, but cannot force to install this driver. The USR-WLAN utility I installed successfully. Some help will be appreciated. |
|
 | OK, we Germans are into the "Do it Yourself !". May be, somebody takes advantage out of it. The problem probably was, that W2k verifies the vendor of the DWL-G520G card/driver, based on the information from PCI bus. So I modified the USR11G.inf file according the information, I got from W2k-"System Information" about my installed DWL-G520+ card.
Excerpt from the modified c:\winnt\inf\usr11g.inf: ; For Win98,ME,2K [USR] ;%USR11G.DeviceDesc% = USR11GAG, PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_9066&SUBSYS_16EC010D ;This was the original contents from USR ;Next line edited; Vendor_inf copied from "System info" of W2k %USR11G.DeviceDesc% = USR11GAG, PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_9066&SUBSYS_3B041186&REV_00
Now it works. I will see, how good it works compared to my D-Link SW. What I have to say just now is, the D-Link driver had more features to be set up compared to the USR-driver. But I am more interested in stability. |
|
 | reply to BTest wow this driver is the bomb .... I usually had a copy rate (in the normal lan) of 100-200kb/s now I have over 1Mb/s .... this is great |
|
 | reply to BTest hmm, I don't really see any improvement with this driver actually. My 4.00.43 Dlink G+ driver is as stable and fast as it could be.
Transfer rate is still the same, but file transfers between the Plus card running USR driver and a Centrino notebook seem to be unstable and slow.
I think the router one uses makes a big difference too. |
|
 | reply to BTest Some other differences:
22Mbps x 4x on B+ Router - USR yes, Dlink no
100Mbps upgrade - USR yes, Dlink no
USR boosts Signal strength, DLink boosts Link Quality
Disappointment:
No WPA on any of them. |
|
 | USR announced, new drivers will support even higher rates (up to 125MBit) and WPA authentication.
Let's just wait and see... |
|
 | i not sure if the firmware for the USR router can be apply to the 624+ router . It will be too risky to do this . |

1 edit | reply to BTest Hi all,
As i've problem of deconnections with my DWL-G520+, i've tried, as related above, to install USR driver without success. I've proceeded like this:
- Uninstall DLINK driver - stop PC and remove card - install USR driver - modify usr11g.inf (i'm under Win2K) - stop PC and place card in it - restart PC
Card is recognized as a US Robotics Wireless card, Led Link/Activity is on. When i go in the option "Site survey", i see my Router but when i do "connect", nothing happens, "scanning" remains without attachment. I've verified all parameters.
An idea for me?
Thanx |

 | You can try another procedure, which I described for the use of the Atheros driver for another type of D-Link card, but in principle it should also work for the USR driver in your case. The trick is, to "Update" the installed D-Link driver, and to force an update with another "unsuitable" driver.
»[Info] New Atheros driver 3.1.1.48
This definitely is even the better solution. I am still learning ... |
|
 | Thanx for your answer.
I will try this asap but i think not before next sunday. No time for me this week
I will give you the result, be sure.
