gt7697cPremium join:2001-02-16 The Hive | Leaving Well, guys it has been very fun.:)
Unfortunately, I have to say goodbye.:(
The support was excellent, the service was great. However the price was a little too high. I hate it that it came down to a budgetary decision because the quality was so good, but ultimately it did come down to money. Maybe our paths will cross in the future and we can do business, so for now, Goodbye.
My second line that had SnappyDSL will be disconnected on May 21, 2004 by BellSouth. I have already faxed the cancelation notice to Snappy as of 2:45pm today (May 18, 2004). There will be no way that I can use the SnappDSL service on or after May 21, 2004 as the line will be dead and the modem will put in the box that it came in. Should any bills come in on using Service after May 21, 2004 they will be disputed with my Credit Card Company. gt7697cPremium join:2001-02-16 The Hive | Already setup and running.:)
But it was a Nightmare to get it to work.
I went with BellSouth, what can I say...The Dark Side does offer many..many deals.;)
Anyway I went with DSL Extreme my POTS already qualified for a Discount from BS so it brought Extreme down to Direct Tv prices, with a huge increase in speed. Well for all the Deals the Dark Side offers..they still do not have qualified Tech Support or Sales people...so that is where my nightmare began. Fortunately the Tech they sent out to fix the problem graduated from the same High School as I, and was able to fix everything. I got a Home Run install.:)
I know I will miss Snappy...I never had to call and yell at them for anything. Everything went smooth...too smooth.:D At least now I get to work out some frustrations with incompetent phone Tech Support people at BS....and yes to them I am probably the caller from HE!!.:p
Later.:)
PS. What do I do with my Alcatel Speed Touch Home?? My contract with Snappy has expired, so I guess the modem is mine, decisions..decisions.;) Any suggestions?:) -- Just my 2 bits. |

perryjayOne of the TenPremium join:2002-01-25 Daytona Beach, FL | reply to gt7697c Good luck with BS, they have some good techs in their forum always willing to help. Not sure how your contract was set up but I bought my STH. I believe it will work with BS so I would hold on to it in case your BS modum goes down. |

gt7697cPremium join:2001-02-16 The Hive | From what I have read, BS made a management decision and dropped their Tech presence in the forums officially. (Unofficially, I am sure the techs still post in the forums just more secretly than before.)
Yeah the modem would work...but I am finding out that it doesn't handle the Extreme Speed very well. I also found out that the BellSouth Modem that I got Free, which is a Westell 220030, is not a very good modem. The reason is BellSouth stripped the modem of what was good about it, and so did Verizon with their offering of the 220015. The modem to have is the 220010 which has all the bells and whistles.
I don't know when Snappy plans on offering the Extreme service, or what modem they are using, but if they offer a Westell make sure it is a 220010.

1 edit | reply to gt7697c it appears we are losing some of our fellow subscribers to agressive price competition from bs.
after all the fees and taxes are accounted for, what is the difference in cost?? it looks like about $5-$8 per month less for bs xtreme. is that about right?? the big savings appear to be in the initial set-up promo and any bundle pricing you can put together without adding un-used services from bs. |

gt7697cPremium join:2001-02-16 The Hive | Here is some number crunching:
1. Snappy DSL NEW Extreme Package: $69.95/month With the Recovery fee of say $2.97: $72.92
2. Family DSL (which is what I had) $59.95/month With the Recovery fee of say $2.97: $62.92
3. BS Extreme DSL (what I have now) Base Price: $54.95 With the Recovery fee of say $2.97: $57.92 3a. I qualify for a Discount for this service my discount is: $49.95 With the Recovery fee of say $2.97: $52.92
4. BS DSL Ultra (same as Family DSL) Base Price: $49.95 With the Recovery fee of say $2.97: $52.92 4a. I would qualify for a discount of this service as well, and the price would be: $44.95 With the Recovery fee of say $2.97: $47.92
Savings:
Comparing the Extreme packages without my discount: $15 with my discount on the Extreme that is a savings of: $20
Comparing the Family DSL with the Ultra: $10 with the discount: $15
Comparing the Family DSL with the Extreme that I have: $10 without the discount: $5
As you can see, if I were to go with SnappyDSL I would be paying $15 more for service. With my qualifying discount I would be paying $20. Now remember this is a monthly cost so paying $15 more for service for the entire year would be: $180 $20 more for service would be yearly: $240
Even just paying $5 more for service would be for the year: $60
With just not paying that additional $5, I can take my mother out once a year to a nice Restaurant on mother's day.
I did not include any of the bundles or promotions, except for the discount that a BellSouth customer would qualify for if they had a plan. There are more discounts with better savings if you have the better plans from BS.
Snappy is a great company. I really liked the quality of service. However, their quality does not justify the higher price with my budget. Emphasis on my Budget.
I do not want this post to be taken negatively, or derogatorily of Snappy. I only posted the numbers that I used to make the decision; as the prices were when I made this decision. I am not trying to convince anybody to follow my path as I qualify for discounts which others may not.
Later.
(If someone from Snappy wants this removed, contact me or the mods. I would prefer they contact me to remove it, but my powers for removal are limited by time.) -- Just my 2 bits. |

tidalTidalPremium join:2001-01-18 Madison, AL | I am in the same boat... Snappy has been great to me but the money I'm saving with Bellsouth is better for me with a new baby in my life. Plus the saving with Directv and Bellsouth it's even better.
I'll keep my Snappy modem in hopes of Snappy being able to have more competitive prices. |
