 | As an HDTV user, I'm going to have to disagree. I bought a open box special at Best Buy for $900. A 47 inch widescreen Panasonic projection TV. Now that I have the HD service from Comcast, I find myself watching more TV. A majority of the primetime network shows are in HD, and ESPN and NESN broadcast all sorts of sports in HD. Plus, ABC has the Stanley Cup in HD. It's an entirely different way to view TV. You actually can see more detail on everything... from the people in the crowd, to the puck on the ice. It is amazing.
The best way to make an analogy of Standard TV vs. HDTV, is Standard TV is like keeping your computer monitor on 640x480, while HD is like having you monitor set to 1280x1024. It truely makes a huge boatload of a difference. |

 | Currently a majority of ESPN's stuff is just upconverted SDTV stuff. And it's 1280x720
I think a more descriptive blurb about HDTV isnt so much of the puck. But its the lines in the ice the skates leave as the player goes down the rink. |

Time to pull your head out of the sand. HDTV is already here, and lots of people have been enjoying it for quite some time. Looking around stores here you can't even buy a bigscreen TV that's not HD ready anymore. Even the sub-$1200 bigscreens are HD capable.
The majority of non-reality prime time network TV programming is already in high definition. Lots of people can get HDTV broadcasts with rabbit ears. That's right, lots of people get HDTV completely free off the air. Comcast is aggressively rolling it out, for $5/month you can rent their HD box. For $10/month you can rent their HDTV DVR. It's really very practical. Premium favorites like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax and Starz all have HD versions included with the price that give you full 5.1 sound and better-than-DVD quality video. I'm saving money by not buying as many DVDs.
Aside for network and premium channels, there's lots more channels out there. Heck there's a whole satellite network, CableVision's VOOM, pretty much dedicated to HDTV video.
Best of all, you don't even need a HDTV to enjoy it. Rent the HD box from your cable company and your standard def TV will and sound better than it ever has. Of course, lots of us who bought our HDTVs long ago have been enjoying amazingly improved DVD quality for years.

I dont think so.... When the price for HDTV comes down to under $500 for a big tv and HDTV service is free, then maby I will think its cool. If you have the money to waste on it, go right ahead.( i still think all of you are morons) -- inc.ath.cx Have a Networking problem or question? Stop by the Networking Forum and let us help you. |

I will disagree as well. I paid $2400 for my Samsung 65" HDTV and $399 for my Hughes HD receiver and $50 for the dish. The DirecTV HD package was an additional $10 a month. Not only are my HD channels great but it makes watching DVD's awesome as well. -- To fill the hour, that is true happiness - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

At $1600, I love my 42" Toshiba HD monitor. To me it would be like going back to DSL from Cable, speedwise:) -- Mcfrisch(Cox HSI : Cleveland) |
