| Re: ?!?!?! Maybe these older people don't intend to utilize it, but for dammed sure the tech savvy kids these days will grow up and utilize it.
So build it now for the future generations, instead of asking a bunch of old people what's best for themselves, and not what's best for the future generations to build on.
My great-grandfather refused to buy a car, he relied on his horse and buggy, and you couldn't get him to buy a car. Yet his two sons both drove Cadillacs as soon as they could afford them.
Just becuase a certain age demographic has no need for technology (having grown up just fine without it), doesn't mean that their kids will want to grow up the same way. -- "The three most dangerous things are a programmer with a soldering iron, a manager who codes, and a user who gets ideas." - Unknown"A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy." - Joseph Campbell

| Re: ?!?!?! Yeah right, so incumbents hit them on their only soft spot: morals and values (which is something they have a lot of, not like the rest of us) and the fogies immediately slam on the brakes.
Why not tell them the TRUTH about how this infrastructure is getting paid for, who will get it, use it, need it, etc., instead of playing on the fears and phobias of the general public.
Oh wait, that's how the rest of the big business doomsayers do it. Truth in Advertising is DEAD. Pretty soon Spin Doctor is going to be a new college major. -- "The three most dangerous things are a programmer with a soldering iron, a manager who codes, and a user who gets ideas." - Unknown"A computer is like an Old Testament god, with a lot of rules and no mercy." - Joseph Campbell

They will keep spinning it to look good for them until people smarten up and realize if we don't invest more in infrastructure and our kids in 40 years we may be at the place Ethiopia is now. to many people and no money.
Don't people learn from mistakes in the past. Is it true that history is doomed to repeat itself. Way back other countries didn't want to invest in automotive factories now those countries are building em to all ends to try and bring money to their economies. Will the US learn anything from this ? -- This package does not contain a winner...

No. Real translation invest in your kids future. You can't take the money with you when you die. Nothing like investing in your kids futures. -- This package does not contain a winner...

That's what taxes are all about. I don't use the subway system in Manhattan, but my federal fuel tax money has gone to subsidise it for years. Same thing with the NE corridor Amtrak trains, etc. Don't get me wrong -- I'd like to have those things available, but they're not available here. Even so, my tax money subsidises them.
That's basically what the whole taxation concept is about -- making people pay for something they won't volunteer to pay for, for the benefit of the people as a whole. -- Cox-forgotten.com - How to pretend to provide HSI without the expense of really doing it.

Amtrak is on its deathbed because consumers don't use trains like they used to, so they turn to the government for a handout and receive it. In actuality, public monies should not be used to finance dying industries and services, or really any industry or service. As far as federal money goes, Article I Section 8 of the Constitution outlines what things government is allowed to spend money on. The Tenth Amendment prohibits them from spending it on anything else. Amtrak welfare and similar endeavors are unconstitutional.
