[poll] What Modem is Best? Poll What is the best modem? |
|
This poll should shed some light on which modem is "Best". Please vote for which modem you would recommend and not which one you have. |

Best Modem is one you can own, and get HN speeds. Guess that isn't in the list yet. |

I always recommend the SB4200/5100 Cable Modems, along with any Toshiba or Terayon Cable Modem. |

I'd vote for the Motorola SB4100 (if it were on the list). Tried and true and nobody is going to DOCSIS 2.0 any time soon. |

I have an SB3100. Seems to be fine but I don't see it on the list. Anyone have any feedback on it? |

The Moto SB5120 works for me. |

I have to go with the SB4200. It's the only DOCSIS modem I've ever used (I spent most of my cable modem days using an old Cybersurfr), and it's been rock solid for the year or so that I've had it. |

Just FYI for people, I didn't put the SB4100 or SB3100 on the list (and some other older modems) because I doubt you can find them easily somewhere other than ebay. |

I voted for the PCX5000 from Toshiba.. My reasons are simple.. I have one, I like it, It's never caused a bit of problems., It has a builtin NAT... |

You should have had a choice that was "Any Motorola Modem". They are all good. All of the RCAs except the 105 have a problem of some sort (I can explain em all by model number if you want me to.) |

I think that would be helpful to all of us here. |

Are you wanting to know the RCA modems and all of their problems?? |

SB4200 here, mine has never had ANY problems in the year and a half I have had it. I am not concerned about the DOCSIS 2.0 upgrade possibilities for a while, so I'll be keeping this modem. |

My Best Data modem is working like a charm. Not a problem yet. I think any modem that works is the best modem. |

I'm a bit torn. I'd recommend any Motorola modem.... if going for a vanilla cable modem, I'd say the second most recent of whatever Motorola has out is what I'd go with. (New stuff tends more often to have bugs that aren't yet resolved by firmware updates.)
For personal, full-featured use, I'd recommend one of the gateway/routers that gives the home user full router control. i.e., the Motorola SBG-1000 which was not on the list, or the Toshiba PCX5000. However, I would not recommend a combination gateway/router to a new user. |
