Ok, you have the documentation, but do you have the money? And what about the Verizon lawsuit? Lawyers are expensive.
I'm just waiting for my CLEC, Rhythms, to fold so I can switch to something else. Why would I want to switch to Covad when all the news is bad news? I'd really like to see you pull out of this, but I don't see how. |

 | reply to Anon Contrary to statements made by covad, there was no bluestar per say, it was Covad business solutions. Bluestar was absorbed and converted. Covad made all decisions in how The old bluestar group operated. All financial documentation including paychecks were labeled Covad by January. Covad Business Solutions was managed by Chuck Haas, a highly placed "Covad" executive. There was no separation as some suggest. Even though the Bluestar folks will have to take their turn as villain of the week, just wanted to clear up any misconceptions that may be floating around as to what happened to Bluestar. |

They wanted their name on it until it sank, then they wanted nothing to do with it. Since this is essentially a forced merger with their other direct ISP (Covad.net), except for the 91 COs that they will no longer service, I think this could have been better handled and communicated.
I'd also like to know, if it took 400 people (the number quoted as being laid off by closing Covad BS) to manage the accounts handled by Covad, how well Covad.net is going to be able to handle all these new accounts with the same number of people. Although I was not a Covad BS customer very long, I loved the responsiveness of tech support. I guess I can kiss that good-bye... |

 | You'll find this interesting. At one point the bluestar techs were told to lower their service level so the call center statistics would match those of the other covad ISP. Only about fifty people were involved in directly supporting the end users. The rest were sales, administration, new activations, etc. The good news is a few of the guys that gave you great service are working to insure the transition, of the circuits that will be kept, is handled properly. They're top notch techs, they do everything they can for you. Covad.net uses outsourced call centers so you may sense a slightly different flavor to their tech support, but I would give them a chance. |

 | reply to Anon Covad claims that letters were sent out to BlueStar (Covad Business Solutions subsidiary) customers on Monday but as of today (Friday) we have not received a letter. Its a good thing I follow the stock press releases otherwise I might not have known. We were made promises when we signed up with "Covad Business Solutions" that exactly the situation which has occurred, would not. I have little faith in the company's reliability at this point.
Covad has "generously" offered move our lines to Covad.net and take over our 768 SDSL contract that we had with BlueStar (aka Covad Business Solutions) for $329.00 per month. Presently we are paying $299.00 per month.
To be honest, I am glad about the BlueStar shut down. This has released us from our contract with Covad. Instead of being bait-and-switched into a higher priced contract and forced into the safety net, we are going to change ISPs.
We'll be ordering 768 SDSL from McLeodUSA - at $139.00 per month. I could order two lines and still be paying $80 less than Covad. McLeod has been our LD CLEC for many years. |
