Re: Lingo VOIP- $19.95 unlimited US, Canada, Western E I have just called customer care to ask about the activation+shipping fee waive. The [Indian-accented] rep told me that they had been waiving the fee, but as of now they have discontinued the waive, and I promptly decided not to sign up. |

2 edits | A lot of speculation is going on about whether you are charged an activation fee or not, here's my 2 cents - I signed up this morning on the web and this is what my order details look like. I don't know if the $39.90 is a special credit or that's what they charged by credit card...guess we'll find out.

2 edits | This is maddening. Talked to another rep who's still saying they don't waive activation & shipping. But those online summaries look for all the world like they're not charging! I cancelled my order, but now wondering if I should try ordering via the web.
BTW, Manhattan Cleaners must be going ballistic... their number is *still* listed on the Support page, under "Sales."
I'm starting to lean toward letting others be the guinea pigs... this operation feels "not ready for prime time." I would have tried it for the 3 months w/o these signup fees, but... |

I agree, its likely that I will be charged $39.90. However it definitely says that there is 30-day risk free trial so I assume that means if you cancel within 30 days they will refund the activation charge (probably not the shipping charge but who knows) |

Yes I have the number but it hasnt entered UPS's system yet so I dont know where they ship from.
It came in an email 2.5 hours after I ordered:
Subject: Welcome to Lingo! Thank you for your recent order from Lingo.com. You should receive your Lingo equipment and start-up kit in 3-5 business days. |

jvigierPremium join:2002-01-17 Wells, ME | I suppose there is a fine line between the geek in me wanting to be on the bleeding edge of technology and the sado masichist pleasure of inflicting pain on myself...
Nevertheless I signed up for this today.
I got, same as everybody else the order tracking that shows a "Lingo Pre payment" and a total of zero. Now maybe I am an ignorant but could it be that the "prepayment" is in fact my credit card payment and it only shows zero because they succesfully "pre-noted" my card (pre-note is bank lingo for authorization...just trying to sound smart -right-)???
We will see, I guess, when I get the adapter and start cooking.
I do have a question though. When I contacted them they indicated that they could potentially port my Maine POTS number over eventhough they offer no Maine numbers and as far as I can tell service no local rate centers anywhere in the state. The person I spoke to in customer care indicated: "we would contact your local phone co and perform the transfer: if the local co could do it then no problem, if not then you can cancel for no charge within 30 days".
This is news to me...would someone care to explain how they plan to port my number when they do not service my rate center? |

 | reply to arl6 just called...
I asked if there was tech support #... she says "Yes, 1-888-546-4699, there are two options, 1 for tech support, 2 for billing"
If I cancel, is there any cancellation fee? "no, no cancellation fee" :P
When I send back the unit, do I or you pay shipping? "You pay shipping"
What if I break or lose the unit? "I don't know how you will lose the unit."
Like library books, ppl lose library books. "You won't lose it"
What if I break it, like drop it and it breaks, do you or I have to pay for repairs? "I don't know. You can't break it"
---------
ok then I try calling the 888 # ... guess what... it's a dud... |
|
 | oh yeah, i asked if tech support was 24/7... she goes, "uhh, I don't know." |

3 edits | reply to arl6 Ok I am looking at dumping my packet8 for this because of the number portability and emergency. I am curious about the number portability where they do not have a rate center listed, will this work? |
