Re: Firmware 1.45.11 for BEFSR41 (v1 and v2) I'm sticking with 1.44.2z cause its been the only one that has been stable for me. 1.45.7 would lock up on me and to many have been complaining about 1.45.11.
So I'll just stick with the oldie |

 | reply to RUdude0884a Uploaded 1.45.11 this morning to the SR41 v2, and so far, no problems at all. |

 | reply to RUdude0884a Has anyone tested the new firmware with the router's DHCP server disabled? This is the way I've been operating for some time, since the DHCP server seemed to be causing difficulties elsewhere. And for my set-up, assigning an IP to each machine attached to my v1 works well.

swbrains join:2004-04-14 Wesley Chapel, FL | reply to RUdude0884a I have a version 1 BEFSR41 and tried the 1.45.11 update yesterday. Within hours, I had the router "lockup" problem I was having earlier with 1.45.7. Resetting only the router restored the connection as expected.
I'm going back to 1.44.2. Ever since the lockup problem started, 1.44.2 is the only firmware that has allowed me to run more than a month without any lockups. |

 | I've got a BEFSR11 (version 1) and have always updated the firmware as available -- I've used it since day one of buying it forever ago and never had any trouble.
I upgraded the firmware to the new 1.45.11 last night and since then no problems at all. I use the DHCP for my PC and for my P8 VOIP DTA-310 to get IPs.
Seems like it may only have problems for those with BEFSR41's and not BEFSR11's... Too early to tell.
Just wanted to let other BEFSR11 (ver 1) owners know that I'm running fine with no problems on the new firmware... |

I have a BEFSR41 Version 2 that had been running with 1.44.2z (Dec. 13, 2002) firmware for over a year with no problems. Upgraded to the new 1.45.11 firmware yesterday. All my old settings remained after the install, such as port forwarding, password. etc.
Noticed that after 4 hours that I had no internet access. Logged onto the router and found under the "Status" tab that the WAN "DHCP Remaining Time" was 0:00:00. So I renewed and it went to 4:00:00 hours, the normal time for my Verizon DSL account.
Well, it's keeps going to zero. I have rebooted the router with a power off/on cycle, but have not yet done the 30 second reset.
Guess I'll go back to 1.44.2z until LinkSys/Cisco fixes the firmware. Strange that users are reporting so many different install scenarios |

 | reply to RUdude0884a I installed the firmware a few hours ago. Except from reseting all values to default it went fine. I noticed that they fixed the Ident (port 113) problem, and also added something called "Filter Internet NAT Redirection" - any one know what it's for?
I have not been able to check the DHCP lease time issue. Whatever I set my lease time to, I always have the same amount of time (counting down) - currently at 14h. I'll know tomorrow if it's an issue. My PCs have static IPs anyway (better for port forwarding), but my Laptop gets an IP from the DHCP - so I should know. The famous "WAN IP exploit" - I think that's a non-issue. It never worked on my router from outside the LAN, and my ISP does not filter ports 80 and 443 ( I don't think there are many that do, as it would prohibit people from running a web site on that ISP). The fact that it works from within the LAN is be design. In any case, any user on the LAN can get to the Admin prompt by surfing to his default gateway. Just set a strong password. The BOOTP issue - that's also not a dangerous one, since it also could only be set from within the LAN - and anyway it's fixed now. The main thing for me to see is, weather the router drops connections and needs a restart like the 1.45.7 did (every hour or so), and to a lesser extent the 1.45.6 (every couple of days). To me that's far more important than the BOOTP issue, but I'm glad something kicked Linksys off their buts after a year of waiting for a stable version. Counting down... |

 | I have a BEFSR41 Ver1, i believe, and just upgraded this firmware lastnight. The DHCP lease time remain 0:00:00 issue has happened twice already. I've had to click renew manually to get a new leasing time and it's also assigning a new IP. It's really annoying. |

I upgraded the firmware on my BEFSR41 v2 last night.
Right away I was seeing a new message in WallWatcher (good program).
Has anyone else seen this type of thing.? Is the new message I am receiving because of the new firmware.? Anyone know.
Attached is my log so you can see the yellow "M" messages in my log. I never received any "M" messages before the new firmware.

 | I didn't see this mentioned here... it is only mentioned two other places in the forums. Has this problem been addressed?

Looks like a hacker outside can remotely sniff all of the router's traffic. Proof-of-concept code is presented. |

 | The BOOTP flaw has been fixed in this firmware. |

I am only being assigned a new IP Address if I click the "DHCP Release" button first. Clicking "DHCP Renew" by itself renews my lease with no IP address change.
Does it work this way for others? |

My LAN settings. For the record, I've been running the 1.45.7 firmware since it came out last year without any issues at all. Don't get lock ups or any of the other bad stuff folks seem to experience. Made a mistake in previous posts though, my BEFSR41 is a versions 2 router, not version 1 (duh). I've always had the thing set up for maximum security. I've also always used static IP's on the LAN side with DHCP turned off. Just to be clear, it's the IP lease on the WAN side that is the problem with 1.45.11. It just won't renew automatically... ever. Even if the connection is in use when the lease runs out. So far this has been while surfing, downloading, listening to a stream via Winamp, and while gaming. Still no other problems to report at all FWIW. |

 | reply to RUdude0884a I've loaded the new firmware to an old befsr41 (no version sticker on the bottom) and DSL reports me as stealth, no open ports. I have noticedthat i occasionally have to reconnect to RoadRunnner. dhcp lease expiring early, i guess. This is on XP, a 98 box connected to same router doesn't do the disconnects. wonder why?

 | reply to imsai8080 Maybe I don't quite understand this, but my SR41 Ver 2 DHCP has been at 0:00:00 for the last two days maybe forever I don't know. For sure since I upgraded to the new firmware which now has been two days. No disconnects or any of the other problems. Why is everyone's problems so different. You would think that if the firmware or the router sucked, that everyone would have problems. -- Charter Cable, 1500/128, XP Professional, Motorola 4100 modem. |
