WAN IP Problems Upgraded my Linksys BEFSR41 v1 firmware from 1.45.7 to 1.45.11 yesterday and have also discovered that it won't renew a WAN IP automatically, have to do it manually every few hours too. No other problems to report so far. |

 | Yep, same thing with WAH DHCP realse - the router does not renew when the lease expires and drops WAN connection as a result. |

 | reply to LinksysUser This upgrade as well as the last two do not work with my 3com Office Connect switch. So I have been having to downgrade. Has anyone else had this problem with 3com switches as well? |

 | reply to LinksysUser Well on the advice of a friend I REINSTALLED the firmware (after also having issues with the DHCP lease time & disconnects). This fixed it - no more issues! |

Can you elaborate: Does the DHCP lease renew itself after using about 50% of the lease time? If not, when it runs to 0:00 do you still keep the connection? How long has it been after the lease ran out? What type of connection do you have to the ISP - direct DHCP or PPPoE? I have reinstalled this firmware a few times now - and there's no change at all in the DHCP bug. That's been the experience of most people on this thread. |

 | reply to LinksysUser I also have had problems with non-renewal of DHCP Lease. I'm on Shaw... and have a BEFSR41 rev 1 or 2... just updated to 1.45.11, with no resolution of the problem... |

 | Re: WAN IP Problems - linksys tech suggestion! I called support & talked to very nice person after a surprisingly short wait. After going thru the usual info regarding how I knew a 1 hour DHCP lease was wrong, she suggested something I thought was a waste of time, but it appears to have worked! She had me set the MTU under the Advanced tab to 576 and apply it. Immediately my lease went to 7 days without even a renew. I requested they put it down as a suggestion on the web site - hopefully it is a valid work around. |

See the thread I started on DHCP lease time. »DHCP Lease Time |

 | reply to anon cable user If you check here »www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/280/ You'll see that 576 is indeed ment for dialup. So Linksys tech support might have been nice, but uninformed... Another thing is, you'll now need to wait 7 days to see if the DHCP lease time expires or renews. Check it after 3.5 days, as the renewal is supposed to happen at the 50% mark. We'll wait for your followup post. I wonder if you change the MTU to 1492 - PPPoE Broadband Connections or 1500 - Ethernet, DSL and Cable Broadband Connections , will that also solve the DHCP lease time bug?
But just to remind you all that this thread has 2 viable workarounds for this problem. I'm using mavit's Perl script for over a week now - and everything is fine! |

jbobReach Out and Touch SomeonePremium join:2004-04-26 Little Rock, AR | I never changed my MTU from the default setting(on the router). I got a 4 day lease time and it ran for another 3 or 4 days after it hit 0:00:00 before finally losing connection. I'm on Comcast cable. |
