Markie join:2003-07-26 Kalispell, MT | Nintendo actually is NOT third place, Microsoft is 'tis true, Nintendo is second place and Microsoft is third in global console sales (though it's close) Personally, the GameCube was the first of the current consoles I bought, and I recently bought a PS2 - primarily for Dance Dance Revolution. If they had DDR on the GameCube, I probably wouldn't have bought it
The current GameCube has some major advantages - by far the most comfortable controller around, excellent graphics (an advantage the Xbox shares; the two are fairly close with the Xbox having a slight edge) compared to the PS2, and small portable size. The "kiddie" image and lack of DVD movie playback, along with coming a year later than the PS2 are what destroyed it. Personally I'm glad of the kiddie image - I don't want to play some violent nonsense. DVD movies? Well my PS2 plays them and my DVD player plays them and my computer plays them, do I really need ANOTHER DVD player? Nah. So I don't care even if the Revolution doesn't play them. I DO want to see DDR on the revolution, are you listening Konami? |

 | reply to Markie They are ALL great consoles in their own right. Some have advantages others do not and vice versa. As far as controllers go there will never be another as good as the ORIGINAL sony controller. It has stayed the same from PS1 until now. That's what Ive played with for 8 years and that's what I'm used to.Play with the Game cube controller for 8 years and try a sony.Square what?Triangle who?X why?Its all what you are used to."My son" has them all and they are great, like i said before,in their own right.I love the Hard Drive in the x box,Madden on PS2,and the fun puzzle games and Mario Parties on the cube. But all in all,GIVE ME THE PLAYSTATION"!!!!!! |

Markie join:2003-07-26 Kalispell, MT 1 edit | I must agree, if I had to have just one now it would definitely be the Playstation 2 - if only for Dance Dance Revolution. But for most stuff I really do prefer the GameCube. I'm not an Xbox fan because it's bulky and fragile (that's what I LOVE about the GameCube it's small and tough. It's the portable CD player of game consoles). Fragile because of the hard drive... it's the most likely to break in a fall, followed by the PS2 (the tray loading drive), then the GameCube which has a decent chance of survival. But realistically, yeah, they're all great. I don't get these idiotic fanboys who defend a system with their life - that's really lame. The current generation systems all deserve credit for what they are:
GameCube
Best parts - Family game selection, MARIO KART!, comfortable controller, excellent graphics
Worst parts - No DDR, no DVD playback, hard to find component cable
PlayStation2
Best parts - DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION!, Kingdom Hearts, DVD Player built in nothing additional needed (I've got the new version with a Progressive Scan DVD player, I've heard the otherone was awful without the driver included with it's remote. This might be a new advantage), huge variety of games for people of all interests inc. backwards compatibility
Worst parts - Relatively speaking - awful graphics, left analog stick slightly hard to reach, triggers don't have the same range to them as the others,
Xbox
Best parts - Dance dance revolution, excellent graphics (very slight edge over the GameCube and amazing compared to PS2), hard drive (no memory cards!), Xbox Live!
Worst parts - original controller very painful to use (since fixed with a very good replacement), hard drive (it's a blessing and a curse because of what it adds to weight and takes from durability), obsessive fanboys (FAR more than for the other systems)
Note - I have quite a bit of experience with all three, I own the GameCube and PS2 and my cousins own an Xbox I play quite a bit. I am speaking from (my own) experience on these issues. |

Re: Nintendo actually is NOT third place, Microsoft is And it's that attitude that is the Xbox's weak point. Microsoft seems to have it too, which is why they're third globally - remember Japan is the largest video game market. And the profit is the same whether a sale is made in America or in Japan! True Nintendo is weak here in America, but because of their global market I don't think they're in any real danger. They just need to stop even trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft. It's not a bright idea. Apple Computer learned it and look where Apple Computer is today - doing better than they have in years, with their music initiative along with a line of computers made for Unix geeks, home users, and students. I have an iBook G4 and love it along with a desktop Windows PC. I don't consider the two platforms to be remotely competitive with each other. The Mac is unique for what it is, but it isn't a business desktop OS. Nintendo needs to do the same and stop trying to compete and instead find their own niche with a truly unique product. Personally, I'm betting that's what the Nintendo Revolution will be - the Mac of the console world (not in terms of actual hardware configuration though, that's the Xbox 2. The thing is basically a PowerMac G5 running PPC Windows NT - in fact, the early SDK previews that have been released to some developers run on an Apple PowerMac G5 (not running MacOS though, running a special Windows version) I've heard). |

Re: Nintendo actually is NOT third place, Microsof Most people in the twenty-something age range who remember how nintendo cater to them in the past can't get over the fact that nintendo is still raking in the cash catering to young children and their parents. They are a very profitable company and they know which side their bread is buttered on. We (the twenty-somethings) are -NOT- nintendo's target audience. |

Why? I think in terms of A,B,X,Y |

1 edit | reply to Markie said by Markie: remember Japan is the largest video game market.
Actually the US has surpassed Japan as far as game and console sales and we are now the world leader. But as far as new and innovate game products go Japan gets them first, as with everything else, lol. |

Have you seen (or tried) MS Office 04' Mac Edition? - I suggest you do so. It blows the Windoze version a-way. Not to mention NO viruses... something "Businesses" might need to look into : ) The Mac has quite a strong following in publishing (like, all magazines, newspapers, etc.) Graphics, Audio & Video as well... Keep it real |

Markie join:2003-07-26 Kalispell, MT | Dude, I'm a big fan of macs. I definitely forgot creative professionals. The Mac is targeted at UNIX geeks, creative professionals, students, teachers, and home users. How's that? It's not targeted at secretaries, accountants, etc. Not that it's bad at all for them. It's just not the group Apple's chasing after. Same in Nintendo, they're chasing after kids and families. PS, I use an iBook G4 and would never own a Windows piece of crashing garbage again! |
