| The DVD debate I don't know why there has ever been an issue about dvd playback. Does not everyone and their mom already have a dvd player? What are they like $30 bucks now. I was glad to see that Nintendo focused on gaming and not movies. But then again I am one of those "Nintendo For Life" 'ers. |

| Switching between dvd movies and ps games is what kills the PS2's laser. In the PS2's case supporting dvds kills your system. But then again what do you expect for proprietary junk. |

| I find it difficult to believe that ANY DVD player from Sony is junk...
But that's just me.

| Are you that stupid to think a brand means quality. Especially for electronics, they are all put together in a 3rd world asian country in sweat shops. Not to mention the PS2 has the worst design ever. Also why is it difficult to believe when the laser getting messed up is a known flaw with the system? |

Holy shit, attack a guy for having an opinion on the quality of a Sony DVD drive.
I have a Sony DVD player. Have had it for YEARS. Haven't had ANY problems with it. So I guess I was using personal experience as background for my thoughts on the PS2 DVD player.
I don't have a PS2. I don't have an X-Box. So I can't comment directly on the quality of those parts...
Again, forgive my ignorance sir, as apparently you are infallable and I, sadly, am not.

| Your an idiot. This has nothing to do with being infallable. Alot of PS2s are dying because Sony's shoddy parts seem to have hit their life span. I have 3 friends with broken PS2's. One of course bought another one while the other two now hate sony. A dvd player has nothing to do with a console that was made to be as cheap as possible. Plus everyone knows the 30 dollar apex dvd players are the best. |

I killed my ps2 laser with dvds... its just a gimmick and a low quality one, if you want to see DVD, just buy a DVD player.
I am now a proud owner of an XBOX which will NEVER be fed a DVD movie.
Also, brand is not quality, the only thing which I bought from Sony that is still in perfect working condition is the MD player... everything else started malfunctioning in 1 or 2 years. I guess they make so that you will be sucked into buying the new model, which offers lots of "cool new features".
PS, I also own a Dreamcast, the games were amazing and after having been thrown in the closet 2 years ago, I started it up last week and it worked fine.
As far as brands go for me, Sony is for TV sets, if you want a DVD go Panasonic, I have had mine for almost 4 years and it still works perfectly. and its cheaper. |

 my PS2 is getting old in fact alot of my older games are simply not being read, i thought it might be age because i got my ps2 the chirstmas after it came out (december 2000) |
