| I want to know what WAN platform they are using. Its nice to see a spin for the little guy, and the municipal is the little guy, but numbers and end-user benefits are only part of the game. We know its fiber, but is this fiber to the residence (home/apt/comdo) or a combination of copper & fiber? Are the playing the POS (packet over SONET), ATM, or something else? Details are nice in order to convince the public that what they are offering seems reasonable and believable.
3x3 symmetric is something, IF the can do it. Sounds like MAN-style Ethernet over fiber. |

Ummmmm....I think this is a wireless setup. Only fiber is going to the access points...from article above "It seems the mainstream press likes cheap broadband; and the Minneapolis suburb of Chaska, where locals are deploying 200 access points to deliver --- wireless --- broadband to the city. " |

Proposed all fiber to the home/business
Final engineering was not done last year, but concept called for boxes like this to be on this side of a house. Final network design was to be done upon approval by voters.

Evermoor is an area of Rosemount, MN where I live and they've had FTTH for a while. If you click on 'connected community' you will find details and a link to the company that put it all together. I have a friend that has a townhouse in Evermoor and its all been a big success I hear  . As far as money goes to build it, I wouldn't be the one to ask for that.
The Evermoor developers were quoted sometime between the middle of 2003 stating that they intend (was more like "we will . . . ") to bring their FTTH to the rest of the city, or at least the most urban parts of it. If you are curious about FTTH, perhaps you want to check out that link and see what they do  .
As far as the Illinois thing, I hope it works out in the end:). |
