I hate GTE/Verizon and Earthlink

I have DSL with Earthlink via GTE/Verizon. Ever since Iv'e got it, it's been slow as hell(239/28). I think they switched me to the bronze package instead of the bronze plus. Everytime I call and tell Earthlink this, they don't know wtf I'm talking about. I asked Earthlink if they could give me a number so I could call GTE/Verizon and they said calling them direct isn't allowed. Is this true? If it isn't, does anyone know a number I could call to GTE/Verizon?

Thanks

It's true. Earthlink is a wholesale customer of Verizon's. This is the setup that Earthlink chose. What this means o you the consumer is that Earthlink IS your DSL provider. If you call Verizon you will be directed right back to Earthlink.
Sorry
Good Luck

Try calling Verizon's ADSL support line 888-391-1234

Supposedly the DSLAM defaults to bronze service (256/64) and almost without exception GTE/Verizon sets bronze plus accounts up incorrectly. They did it to me. It took about nine calls through my ISP to get it resolved.

hey dude, I like that nick name you posted. That sounds like a song from rage against the machine. Anyhow, I hope you have good luck with earthlink. What you say is true as well. One time I called up earthlink to ask for support with my 56k dial-up connection and the bastard hung up on me after 15 minutes of waiting. I think Earthlink hires anti-social/plain stupid people that call themselves "tech supporters." All in all, Earthlink is horrible. Oh well, Later.

Wrong Wrong Wrong and wrong.....did I mention wrong?
Earthlink is your ISP and DSL provider. That is the deal they made with Verizon. They esentially resell the service. You entered an agreement with your ISP not verizon and they should be holding up their end of the bargain INCLUDING customer service! Don't call GTE and delay people who signed up with GTE from getting the Tech support that they need.

Well I called the Verizon DSL support number yesterday, the lady I talked to connected me with Verizon's ADSL tech and repair center, talked to another lady explaining the problem, said she would check the DSLAM setting and call back. Calls back 3 hours later telling me it was the DSLAM was indeed set at Bronze and Not Bronze Plus. Switches me to Bronze Plus, log onto internet, getting 717/120 so I'm happy. Wake up today, notice speed is a little slow compared to yesterday, come to dslreports to do speed test, speed test shows im getting 238/28. Seems some moron keeps resetting the DSLAM setting over there for some reason.
