Anon | I need some first time DSL help I can't get on! Hello I posted earlier. I discovered that I can get the DSL to work on my mom's laptop, yet still not my computer so all the problems have nothing to do with them and they have to do with my computer I think. I can't connect to the Internet I get 3 green lights and yet it works on this laptop. I am got a new NIC and it still won't work. The device is reported working and all the drivers are installed. I installed the protocols and other things needed. I just can't connect and I really looked forward to getting on DSL on my computer. I can't ping any servers like Yahoo and so forth in DOS but people could ping me. The Verizon guys said they were able to ping me. When I connect to DSL with this computer it works fine and I don't connect with anything. Once I connect the ethernet cord in and the green light on the 3COM cord lights up im online. Any suggesgtions to help me out will be greatly appreicited - Ok I am using Verizon formly GTE and there ISP gte internet now verizon isp or whatever. I have made sure all the settings protocols and clients are on. Although the settings for 3com are different. I don't use PPPoE or whatever. On the laptop its on when connected. I am trying to use the same cord for ethernet as the laptop I have tried another cord it didn't work either. But when I connect the computer I see the light on the Link led of my NIC go up just like on the laptop yet I can't get online. I look in WINIPCFG and my host name is adampc.dsl.gtei.net and that looks like im connect but I just can't surf of get AIM on. The verizon techs told me to disable DNS and DHCP with WINS resolution. I am using the Fujitsu modem all 3 green lights are current when i connect it to both laptop and my desktop. - Oh also I don't use any software to connect and I am using Network Everywhere NIC from Linksys I beleive i changed it from my D-LINK which I bought a week ago which worked just the same as this one lights up but no connection. Also Dynamic IP... well on this computer I get new IP every release all and renew all or restart. But on my computer it doesn't change. But I noticted the IP changed when I switched the NIC. |

 | Half of your battle is won - you have a computer that works with DSL. Now make the settings in the TCP/IP setup in your computer match the laptop.
In TCP/IP 'obtain IP automatically' should be checked, 'Disable WINS' checked, 'Disable DNS' checked.
With your computer connected to the modem, reboot.
If you still cannot connect, shut down your computer and remove power from the modem. After about five minutes power up the modem, let it stabilize then power up your computer.
good luck ralph |

 | If you can now ping out using IP addresses but not names, in the TCP/IP setup check 'Enable DNS' and if your ISP provided DNS server addresses enter those. If they gave you a domain server name enter that also. |
